As my previous response may have been harsh, I have decided to rephrase it.
This war, no matter if it was right or wrong to start is a reality of the moment. We are there and to back out now will accomplish nothing good in the long run. The radical Islamic factions who predicted we did not have the balls for this fight will have been proven correct. Their recruitment will rise, we will be viewed as weak.
There may be much more to this war than a short term goal of a Democratic Iraq. It may be that to have a strong foothold in that region will benefit our dealings with Iran and Syria, the two biggest trouble makers there now. If we leave Iraq, the void will have to be filled. Iran is the most likely candidate to attempt this. This is bad.
Regarding the Iraq Report, the President has publicly stated that all the recommendations will be studied very closely. He didn't receive it as a holy document, as it was, at that time, a ceremony to present the report and he hadn't been able to look it over in detail. Please be patient.
The inference that these brave soldiers died for President Bush is ..inaccurate. These soldiers, as well as all the soldiers in history, died for us all. To leave this undone would be translated by many to mean they died for nothing. I do not believe this and hope you don't either. We go to war with the approval of congress.
Running a war based on public opinion is foolish. It works about as well as asking your dog what we should do. We don't have all the facts and data, we don't know the bigger picture. Let the military implement policy in war, let the politicians make the policy through diplomacy if possible. Let the citizens support their nation or not, at their peril. At least 12 times daily, someone posts a question using rude, disrespectful language aimed at our President. I am not now saying this question is phrased as such, but after seeing so much of it, it can make one a little quick on the draw.

To Neutral ? Interesting that your question does not seem so neutral. Do you even know how they were killed? Are you saying that the only reason we are there is for George Bush ? This shows your ignorance on the war. In any war soldiers die. It is the facts of war. You cannot ignore the fact that terror is the issue in this war. We cannot back down in Iraq or any other conflict where terror is the motivation behind the scene. The current problem is that we seem to be losing our will to fight this war. We need to keep politics out of it and let the military finish it.

Wow, 33 soldiers died fighting terrorists. We had that many people killed on the streets of Baltimore last month, and we're not even in a war zone.
Funny, I don't know a single soldier who VOLUNTEERED for the U.S. military because President Bush asked them to go die. And I've been in the Army for 31 years.
Every single one of them signed up to help DEFEND THE U.S. AGAINST MILITANT ISLAMIC TERRORISTS who indiscriminately slaughter anyone that they feel like because no other nation in the world has the STONES to stand up to them.
BTW -- Joe, excellent article. Thanks for posting the link.

My views on this war have changed !! months/years ago I was the biggest supporter of WE NEED TO PULL out but that was then, we shouldn`t even be there in my opinion. We can`t live the in past and change it now though. To look at how it is now and react to that is a whole different story. There are alot of GOOD iraqie people there that want democracy and came over and supported us in this fight. They risked their lives for us !!! WE can`t just say ok well we give up , we got your country in termoil , sorry but we changed are minds and are going home. That would be certain death to the people that helped and believed in the cause . Also (and I know it doesn`t comparee to our soldiers lives) but by pulling out would admit defeat and and as a super power that could have tremendous reprecutions on us in the future . I feel we have risked our soldiers lives by throwing them over their without enough of them to GET THE JOB DONE and get out. So in saying that I think we need to send more, a lot more and wipe this sh-i out and be done with it, bring them home and NEVER let Bush make another decision of such importance because our military should never been involved in THIS BLOOD BATH ....If they wanted to get rid of Suddam they should have just sent a assasin and been done with it because after he was took out of power (for the U.S. )It has went down hill from there and they have acheived virtually nothing ECCEPT FOR MAKING THE TERRORISTS MORE DETERMEND !!!

If you look at War as numbers, your wrong, I hate to say it but it will never be about numbers. Wars have been fought over land, money, love, greed and gluteny for power. The number of dead are only kept by those who sit on the sidelines and wonder what rule or language will I have to learn next to survive. I've done 2 tours and have lost 2 friends in this war. We were not there as numbers.
Saddam had violated every word of the Gulf War treaty and thru Bill Clinton thumbed is nose up to the whole world. "Look at me, standing up to the Big, Bad USA." We let Hitler get away with violating the treaty of Versiles after WWI. That led to WWII. Stability in the middle east is the key to world peace in my opinion. Take out the minority extremeist whos only chance of survival is the use of terror tactics and we have peace. Unfortunity, Iran wants to be part of that minority. Their president has vowed to destroy Isreal, not win it over, but destoy it. He is developing nuclear capibilities and has a means of which to deliver it. If that happens your numbers will go WAY up because as an allied force we are honorbound to help protect Isreal. Can you say WWIII? Wars and rumors of wars, book of revelations? Then GOD will be the one calling numbers. God has my number! when he is ready to call me I'll be ready, untill then, I'm a soldier and I'll continue to do what I have always trained to do. Make there number of loses higher then ours.

It seems to me that it was not a 1 person decision made to go to war. Of the 33 sacrificed how many did we kill in return a hell of a lot more, I'm sure.

You tried to say Bush sent them to their deaths eh? It sounds like it.
Get real...who else has the balls to police the world? Would you prefer we let the evil in the world keep on building, or would you try somehow to stop it?
Look...heres a thought. Its our way, or their way.
I prefer our way. At least its associated with freedom.
