Tulip-There is no scientific proof that shows running increases your risk for osteoarthritis!! That's a myth that got started and there are actual studies that show running improves joint health by keeping them active and loose. The mistake that people make which causes joint damage is trying to run to hard, or new runners over-doing it. Heavy runners also are more susceptible because of the added weight impacting the knees. But a normal healthy runner, who is excercising smart should not suffer joint damage.

running puts stress on your joints in the lower limb (hip, knee and ankle)-it can cause wearing of the caritlage in these joints and thus runners are usually predisposed to osteoarthritis. Running, however, is very good cor cardio fitness and to lose weight so if you want to run you should run uphill as this is less stressful on your joints compared to level or downhill. Walking is obviously better for you joints and if you are elderly where your joints have already undergone wear and tear, walking is what you should do for fitness. If you're worried bout your joints or if you have a joint problem that you know of but wnat to keep fit try brisk walking or jogging or better yet SWIMMING which is great for your joints and fitness!!

It depends what you want out for it.

Walking (a brisk walk which causes you to break a sweat and pant etc) is the bast way to loose weight as you are able to keep it up for longer. It is also easier on your joints.

Alternating between spurts of walking, jogging and running is a good idea, but make walking the biggest part as it allows you to keep i going for longer.

I've always heard that walking is better because there is less impact on your joints. Walking at a brisk pace is a good way to keep in shape.

walking is better as it will not wear your parts out and cause damage the way running will. Running is for emergencies only.
