Despite knowing the inevitable liability, we recently adopted a cat here in China and grown so attached to him we are thinking of taking him back to the UK in the future. Has anyone done this? Or know of the best way to do it?
We've looked at the DEFRA rules re: microchipping and quaratine, but we want to avoid quarantine. Any help massively appreciated.

P.S. We didn't want to give the impression we would "smuggle" him in, just if it is possible to have him checked and chipped in a 3rd country for a pet passport in a 3rd country.

What is the problem with quarantine? It keep this country rabies free. There are good and bad quarantine places. When I brought a dog back from Germany before the pet passport scheme he went into quarantine and loved it. It was a fantastic place. It was too far from where I lived to be able to vist often but I chose it because it had such a good reputation. His needs came before mine.It was Kitcombe quarantine kennels and cattery in Hampshire.

Hello,

Its a clear & simple situation, the cat MUST BE chipped & quarantined no matter what you say!! anything less than this is breaking UK laws. You can and will be prosecuted if you are caute bring the animal into the UK. The reasons for this are to do with the very real fear of diseases being spread, such as rabiee's & cat influenza.

**Dont take the risk its really not worth it in my opinion. And if you are caute it will cost you a great deal more than chipping & quarantining the animal in the first place. I think the fines are quite high for that kind of animal related offence.

I know this sounds very harsh, but I don't think you can avoid quarantine if you're coming from china. If this is the case and you're discovered your cat will be put down and tested. If it's discovered to have had anything contagious, ie. Rabbies, every pet within a 10mile radius will be put down.

Sorry it's not nice news, but unless you can get pet passports outside the EU then you have to quarantine your animal. It's better then the alternative.

You won't avoid quarantine. I think it's 6 months. It would be very foolhardy to try and smuggle a cat into the UK.

No there's no way of avoiding or evading quarantine. When, not if, you're caught, the cat will be destroyed, you'll be fined and/or imprisoned and wildlife in your area will be destroyed as a safety measure. So please don't even think about it. All that aggro really isnt worth breaking the law.

Don't even try to avoid quarantine! it's there for both your cat and any animals it might come into contact with here, and smuggling your cat in can result in a massive fine and/or imprisonment for you, and your cat would be put down

Pet passports only apply to the EU. It's quarantine for your kitty. They are very clean and take good care of kitty but it can take a lot out of you both.

I don't think so. Quarantine still is required for any live animal brought from there so I assume that applies to cats.

You've actually managed to find a cat in China that isn't on a menu?
