can this story be taken as a historical/literal truth? as a christian myself i dont believe so. The meaning of this story is linked to the baptism of christians in the new testament.

do christians agree with me? the same could be said of the flood during noah's time. when we look beyond the literal words of such stories dont you think that we get the real meaning of the bible?

The original Exodus never actually mentions the Red Sea. It DOES mention a "Sea of Reeds" (Yamh Suph) in the original Hebrew. Seas and lakes were interchangeable in Hebrew literature.

There's been a lot of speculation about which body of water this could mean, as there are a number of lakes both extant and dried up north of the Red Sea. In his "Walking the Bible" books, Bruce Feiler and Avner Goren took a boat across one of the candidate lakes, and it was a fairly shallow and reedy lake.

The fact that it is potentially a much less dramatic body of water to part than the inlet of the Indian Ocean that is known as the Red Sea certainly means it could have historical truth to it.

Of course it is the TRUTH, It's God word.

If you read the complete story of the parting of the Red Sea you can see how God actually explains how HE did it. It didn't happen in a minute. Exodus chapter14

As for The flood, even Scientists now believe that the ark existed.

Yes some of the Bible is figurative and compares mortal things with spiritual things . And if we study as Christians we see the differences clearly.

It will take our life time but we are always gaining more wisdom through studying God's inspired word. Of course we do draw very valuable lessons from Moses and Noah and I believe that is why God calls the Old Testament our Schoolmaster, we are no longer under this law since Christ died and nailed it to the cross but we can still learn from it. The New Testament is what Christians are to live by today.

I taught 4 and 5 365 days olds at church for about 2 many years. while we did the story of of the parting of the sea, it became into consistently relaxing to take a shallow cake pan and placed approximately an one million/8 of an inch of water into the pan, and then have the babies attempt to area the water. of course they are in a position to push on the water all they choose and it does not pass. finally, i might get down and easily blow around the water and could open a channel dazzling for the duration of the midsection of it. Watch their little eyes advance with exhilaration as in addition they like to attempt it. i'm going to then tutor them in Exodus the place it states that's precisely how God parted the sea for Moses. Exodus 14:21 Then Moses stretched out his renounce the sea, and all that night the LORD drove the sea back with a solid east wind and became it into dry land. The waters have been divided. i did not choose a scientific article to tell me that, because of the fact the Bible already states it. whether that's often superb while technology finally gets around to determining what the Bible says is actual, logical, and could be supported by using the two technology and historic previous.

as a pagan i say no way this could be used as historical/literal truth.
BUT as a person with out any bias i would have to say the story of the red sea is possible i go out to sea alot im not in the nazy or anything my dad just has a boat lol. but any ways like i was saying i got out to sea allot and i have actually seen mini parts of the red sea lol it all depends if the wind is strong enough and if the angle is right. sooo it could have actually happened. it would have beed the biggest coinisedence in the world but it is possible that the red sea could have actually happened.

as for the flood the bible might not be the historical truth but there is plenty of evidence that the world might have suffered a massive flood at one point in time. but every religion has a flood story and they are pretty much all teh same soo who kows that could have been stolen from another religion by moses who knows

if you want good answers look into it your self lol you gain more knowledge and wisedom researching somthing on your own than if some one just gives you the answer

It is the truth. Remember that the Word of God is all true. Parables have symbolism, but the Parting of the Red Sea really did happen. It shows that God is a powerful God, and that He does perform miracles if you fully trust Him. Know that He is omnipotent meaning almighty. The parting of the Red Sea was a phase in the Israelites' liberation from slavery in Egypt. Read Exodus and you will understand why the sea had to be parted.

have you come across the line in the book that a second on earth is a thousand years in heaven or vice versa? and that the universe was created in six days? then again, six HEAVEN days, it might be, since our universe would have evolved in its present state only after billions of years since its birth. but then again how many seconds in a Heaven day? do the math and you get a high number with a line of zeroes. parting of the red sea would be scientifically proven in a way that will be understood within the limits of our mortal intellect. dont know how, but for me it happened naturally. i would rest my case on that.

just a parting shot, when we pray to God to give us our 'daily bread" as we say so in the Lord's prayer, we don't really expect loaves that would fall from the stratosphere as that would not be scientific. God would not do that in violation of the natural law

There are so many stories in the Bible than seem to me unbelievable. The parting of the Red Sea as you have mentioned is one.. The other is Jonah and the Whale. As the city of Gomorah burned, Ruth looked back thus turning into a pillar of salt.

I agree with you entirely, read between the lines you will find a message there.

Most of the stories are just that...stories. IF something happend with the red sea, it was explained that there was a sand bar.

The exodus is an integral part of the shaping of the nation Israel. It is literal and should be understood as such.
