I am not a Zoologist but I think its something to do with the food chain, esp the cat - rat issue. and also establishing dominance and boundaries with animals esp btw dogs and cats. in the wild the habitat is far and wide so dogs and cats dont really come in close contact but at home on in the human environment the space is too small for any sort of clear boundaries. ME THINKS!

It's just nature. Cats eat rats, so that's a case of preditor and prey. Dogs and cats can live together, though they are natrual enimies...

Because that's just what they do. The cat and rat are vermin to the dog. The rat is food to the cat. The rat is screwed all the way around!

Are you saying that dogs don't chase other dogs? Dogs do fight with other dogs, and not always with cats. Same with cats.

no enmity,its just the size that makes the difference. if the cat is bigger than the dog , then it will be hell for dog.
