Fail-safe method whether cooking rice for 1or 100, get your measure (eg, a coffee mug) use double the amount of water as to rice so 2 water, 1 rice, 4 water 2 rice, etc. Rince rice through a sieve. Put into saucepan. Add salt, water and bring to boil, boil for 8 minutes. Turn off heat, Cover with tight fitting lid. DO NOT BE TEMPTED TO LOOK BEFORE 1/2 an hour has passed, DO NOT LIFT LID. When 1/2 hour has passed, lift lid and fluff with a fork, there you go, perfect fluffy seperated grains!

Wash the rice with cold water. Boil kettle. Put washed rice in pan with a lid. Cover with boiled water. Add a pinch of salt. The water should come about a 1/2 inch above the rice.
Cover, boil. Do not be tempted to stir! Rice should be ready when you cannot see water but pits in the surface of the rice. Test a couple of grains. If not done, add a little more boiling water and continue as before.
When done, drain and fluff with a fork. NOT A SPOON!!!

Measure the rice in a measuring jug.
Boil the kettle.
Gently fry the rice in a tablespoon of oil until it turns transparent.
Measure out boiling water, twice the volume of rice.
Add to pan, slap on a lid and simmer for 10 minutes.
Test, all the water should be absorbed and it shouldn't be mushy.

Put water in a saucepan & bring to the boil. Add a tiny bit of cooking oil so that the rice doesn't stick together or to your plate. Add the rice & leave to simmer for about 15 - 20 minutes. Taste the rice until it is to your satisfaction.

Two important things.
1. Wash the rice
2. Never ever stir it
The reason it goes soggy is because it releases starch. If you stir it the starch gets knocked out even quicker.
So when you cook rice, put the rice you need in a seive and run under a cold tap until the water runs clear. Cook in a pan, and do not stir, when its done put it back in the seive and pour a whole kettle full of water through it to remove any starch that has been released during cooking.

I'm lazy at making rice, i do mines in the microwave and it's fantastic.
Just add the raw rice with the correct amount of water ( boiled water) and cook on high for a few minutes until you see the water boiling then turn heat down to medium and cook for 11 minutes.
It's great because you don't have to stir it and it comes out perfect everytime...trust me :-)
Good luck x

Thanks for those answers folks, I've had little problems with rice in the past like water evaporating before rice is done, so taken longer to cook, didn't think of using the kettle. Sometimes I just cheat and use boil in the bag rice
