When I was a child someone close to me became ill.
I remember she would make funny faces while she got her daily meds and shots.( she calmed our fears ) And she laughed and giggled telling us to go on to school, while my sister and I watched not really understanding why there was a hospital bed in the living room....I can't go on with that here, anyway..
Humor is the only way to handle illness and death, at some point you will go insane if you continue to dwell on the family members illness and decline.
Then, I dread saying it, that death comes as a relief...after a long illness...I saw the exhaustion worn on the faces of my dad and brother and older sister.
There was a calm the day she died, 50 people were in the house I could here not a sound that entire day.
I hope you can cope with this and I wish you peace.

Do a lot of READING reagarding the illness will help in understanding what does the someone close to us is going through. Thus, we should become stronger and with the name of LOVE we'll be more sincere/motivated and less stress.
Take nutritional food....enough sleep/rest....exercise...so we stay physically & mentally fit-take a good care of ourselves first, before helping others.

the only way to handle the stress is to take it one day at a time and pray everyday for help. there are also counselors that can help. I know I deal with it everyday.

if it is mental illness, you need to talk to the doctor and/or physciatrist how to handle the stress and any possible relapse.
if it is other type of illness, you still need to talk to the doctor.

By helping them handle theirs. When they're calm, you're calm. When you're calm, they're calm.
Hard as it is, you must try and hide your stress in their prescence. An ill person will just feel worse if they know they're upsetting you.
