The thing is, you see all of the "storefront" dojos. I'm sure you've seen them. I would love to find someone who KNOWS what he or she is talking about and is not just instructing for show and/or money. Things is, I just don't know how to go about it.

If you hear the students say "Tae Kwon" "Tae Kwon" "Tae Kwon Do" as they punch middle, middle, face... walk out the door and never return.

I am not Sensei Cox but here are some good school tips...
Never sign a contract
Never pay for a rank test
Find a clean, friendly school
Ask questions
Expect clear answers
Ask for proof of direct lineage to the founder of the style
Try a couple free classes
make sure they practice applying their tecniques ( sparring)

It can be quite hard to find a decent instructor and not one who is just after your money.

Go along to one of their classes and say you just wish to watch (If they let you) They should be actually teaching not just making people do tasks without feedback, a good instructor would be providing feedback throught the training.

See if they have any recognition with professional associations e.g. T.A.G.B for Tae Kwon Do.

Also try and talk to some of their students and see what they think and how well they are doing belt wise etc.
