She can be fixed now. It will last until she is bred or fixed. My vet recommends fixing at 6 months but since your girl seems to an early developer, I'm sure the vet would agree to do it now.

I have two purebred Maine Coons in my cattery that are about a year old. When they go into heat, it generally lasts 3-5 days. During the Winter months the heats are less frequent, and occur several weeks apart; during the Spring and Summer months the frequency increases. It seems that each cat develops her own rhythm. If there are 2 or more cats, they may go into the same rhythm together if they are in contact with each other. My two do so. Additionally, different cats go into heat at different ages. A cat that goes into heat at 5 months is relatively young, though not unhealthy. Some breeds won't have their first heat until nearly 1 year old.
Neutering is commonly done from 5 months on, though your vet will let you know what age he/she is comfortable with. However, a new trend has begun called early neutering, where kittens can be neutered as early as 7 weeks. A breeder I know has been doing this with her kittens for over a year without problems. A study done by the Winn foundation has found no detrimental effects following the study five years on.

HI there..... I have just had the same problem. My 6 month cat was crying every night and day. The best solution is not to smack your cat.. It doesnt help.... Try locking her up in a room with all the neccesaries.. As for how long it lasts. Well if you have male cats that can get into your garden, it might last up to 2 weeks give or take a day, but if the male cats cant spray anywhere near your home(like if you live in an apartment) then it might last a week like mine. Hope this helps..
The BEST SOLOUTION - Have her fixed.. Im having mine fixed end of this month. As cats will go on heat every 3 months.

Kitties normally go in and out of heat every few days until either bred, or spayed, until the weather is cold enough that the heat cycles stop. Indoor-only cats don't seem to get that luxury. It's not good to take her to be spayed during the worst of her heat days, but you might take notice of how long her 'bad spells' tend to last, then try to book her an appointment to coincide with a 'lesser' day. Better yet, check with your veterinarian; I believe they DO have a medication now to bring a little female out of heat, so that surgury can proceed within a short time.
I hope you can get your little female taken care of soon; this situation is a misery for all concerned. You'll be doing both her and you a huge favor, and will know you are keeping yet even more kittens from being born who could likely have a hard time finding homes. Good luck to you.

She can be fixed now. Cats aren't like dogs, they can be fixed whether they are in heat or not.
I'm not sure what the actual length most cats are in heat is, but in my experience it has been about a week.

She can be fixed now, and it lasts a few days(being in heat). Make sure she doesn't get out or you'll have kittens.
