the young children of today seem to be out of control - with no one taking responsibility for them or seeming to care

where are the parents?
what are the schools doing?
what are the police doing?
what about the government?

there seems to be more focus on the bad ones and the children who do manage to behave themselves are being ignored.

they seem to have lost their sense of direction, only wishing to have careers in music, marry a footballer and getting their clothes off.

who is teaching them about values and self respect, and respect for others

i dont think there is one specific point to blame.

-Parents prefer to blame everyone else, because it is easier.
-Schools are to blame, but not the actual teachers who have huge class, crazy exam result pressure and shrinking budgets.
-Police are to blame but not directly, they are maxed out fighting drug and drink related crimes, and can spare the time to catch the 10yr old shop lifter.
-Government, now they are to blame as they can control and steer all of the above. They can shift funding, put in laws etc..

The key is for everyone to accept some responsibility, this includes those who dont have kids, they should not ignore problems they see because they are not the parents. old fashioned values is the only way out of this mess!!

richard branson, alan sugar etc are good business role models, but then they harp on about how badly they did at school, which does not exactly encourage our youth to work hard!!

Sports wise most get paid such excessive amounts, that moral values have long since gone. Only in the side lined low profile sports do you get some good character. The princess's daughter Zara might turn into one.

Politician are an example of everything someone should not become. A few with morals have resigned, but these are not strong high profile people.

Okay, well society in general would need to make a change. It's not that nudity is anything bad, but the attitudes that are coming with it are. (I.e. Sexualizing children at a young age.) Legislation won't help if people keep themselves in the dark. The law can only do so much and quite frankly, it isn't the over arching organizations that do anything, it's individual people. Gotta start at home and take an interest in the child's life, and all that jazz.

As far as positive role models are concerned, Jane Goodall, Nelson Mandella, the Dhali Llama, Mr. Rogers, Magic Johnson, heck even Bono isn't so bad. At least he keeps up causes like aids research. (I'm not saying the last two are equal, but they are in more of the popular media maybe.)

The point is, one has to get past all the media dribble and focus on the positive people. Really, it comes down to a test of wills. You have to persist against the constant stream of "me me me."

The lack of positive role models, has turned much of today's youth into a bunch of: disrespectful, lazy, spoiled, spineless, ambition-lacking brats. Too many youth are lacking positive role models in the home - where it all begins... Their mothers are druggies, drunks, or whores and cannot be a positive role model for their daughters. Their fathers are druggies, drunks, or whoremongers and cannot be a positive role model for their sons. Too many parents are absent from their children's lives due to divorce, incarceration, or their own choice to be absent, for whatever reason. Grandparents and great-grandparents are raising today's youth because mom and dad are incapable or unwilling of doing THEIR job. Most of the the male role models our youth relate to are: vulgar rap stars, dog abuser Michael Vick and other athletes, who engage in illegal and immoral behavior. The girls follow in the footsteps of Brittney Spears, the Kardashians, Lindsay Lohan and other fake Hollywood whores. No wonder; the boys want to be Ebonics speaking, pants dragging, gang-banger wannabes and our girls want to emulate cheap, sleazy, brainless hookers. It all begins - at home...

Because of the apparent lack of public positive influence on our youth of today, it becomes even more important for parents to do their job and teach their children to be respectful of themselves and others. I feel like it is the parents that have dropped the ball on this one. Like the mother who tried to sue McDonalds because her child was fat from supersizing meals...It is our responsibility to police our own children and make sure they are moving in the right direction. The schools are limited with what they can do..their job is to teach children academics, the job of the police is to inforce the laws and the job of the parents is to raise their children to respect the education system and laws as well as themselves. If parents do their job properly the other systems will have an easier task of performing the jobs they are hired to do. Parents are too quick to blame other things for the failure of their children...if your child has no values and respect...it is your responsibility...

Rare. hard 2 find. nowadays people r so engrossed in pleasue that they r blind 2 d fact that many r suffering. we hv been trying hard 2 preach goodness & respect but all of those effort seemed 2 b useless cos many people's mind hv been corrupted by desire, stupidity, ignorance, lust & celebrities/celebutante. So d positive role models for youth now r still religious leaders like Buddha, Jesus Christ & Lao Zi.

There aren't because everyone just blathers on about their rights forgetting that with rights come responsibilities.
No-one wants to take responsibility.

Sportsmen used to be good role models, but look at football for example, what a shite set they all are.

You can thank LIBERALS for doing everything possible to destroy American families.

They started 40 years ago to marginalize fathers, families, etc.
