Political parties are usually inevitable element of elected leadership (as opposed to being ruled by a line of kings or hostile takeover). They're important for proper representation of ideology... such as gay marraige, abortion, wars, and also as a coalition to oppose certain ideologies, such as increase taxes or restriction of rights.
In the US, the Democratic party is where liberal minded politicans gather, while the Reuplican party is where conservative minded poltiicans gather. In this way, they can work with each other to achieve certain goals and at the same time, band together to oppose certain things.
By having the democratic party backing him up, Bill Clinton made connections with other democrats all across the nation, and with the help of a democratic congress, he helped build up a surplus of money. If there was no party and it was a free for all, there would be chaos... I don't mean to degrade these people, but Nigeria and Thailand are known for political coups, comming from angry people who feel un-represented or want to take over to achieve thier own goals.
Certain aspects of politcal p[arties are unsavory... such as voting along party lines when you feel otherwise, but, it's all compromise... by banding together, people and poltiicans gain more power to achieve the most important goals.

yes because the common people don't know the technicalities of politics and government proceddings. by having two (or more) political parties, the minority party would always be on the lookout what the majority is doing and when they see some things that are wrong, they are the ones who sound the alarm to the public. this is beneficial to the people because they would be aware of what's going on.
if there's only one party, they could just agree among themselves and hide some important things from the public, thereby deceiving us of the real atatus of the govrnment.
history tells us that the framers of the american constitution never intended for dual parties in the US. the federalist paper has a section on this (haven't read it yet though). years later, americans realized that having two parties are is actually good for democracy. it allows for somebody (or a group) to check on the way the government is being run.
i believe this is something similar to america's capitalist economy. when there's competition, products and services get better so that businesses could stay on top.
in the political arena, political parties tell the public of their planned platform of government to get elected. this is in accordance with the theory that the people will vote for those who represent their preferences.

There is a need for a more prominent third party. Really give the other two party something to worry about an maybe they will start acting like Representatives of the American People and actually standing up for what their parties believe.

Honestly: Political parties are totally unnecessary! Consider a society which is Community driven from grass roots level upwards: the residents in a street block for instance, chose a voluntary representative from amongst themselves, who serves on a Ward Committee (i.e. 10 blocks to a ward); the Ward Committee chairperson represents the ward in a City/ Town Council; the chairperson of the Council represents the city/town on a regional/state basis; and the chairperson of the State Council represent the State on a Federal Council (government); with the chairperson of the Federal Council acting as the President. Utopia? No - feasible!!!

Frankly speaking it is better to revise our political system. like in USA there should be only two political parties and presidents rule. I read in news mag zine that people in india are opening new political parties just to save taxes by showing black money as political funding, which is off course is tax free. So its time to drastically put lots of amendments in our Constitution or i believe to make a new one instead.

I agree with GW no not Bush but Washington. GW said that American politics should never establish political party's. I think the reason for this is that it influences the vote (by our elected officials) to do as their party wishes instead of as their constitutes wish.

s. atleast 3 parties should be there to strengthen democracy. In a democracy nobody bothers about people and it is only in paper. Dictatorship is the need of the hour atleast for sometime, so that people will learn what is democracy. Take our neighbours. Are they have any freedom to speak, write or work? Proper use of democracy will get good things for us.

this is a very good question
if there are no political parties then someone will be the dictator and make us slaves which we dont want to be again, and if there are too many political parties then it will lead to political contest and the voters will be given bribes by the politicians. therefore, we should neither have too many political nor none

Consider there is only one political party, then they never have the fear of losing their rule.. hence they tend to become arrogant and there is every possibility that they turn the whole democracy into some sort of dictatorship.
Hence it is advisable to have more than one party..though we don't really reap any benefits, however at least the fear of losing the next term to the opposition keeps them checked ....
