Don't get your hopes up too high with protein powder. Basically a serving is 20 grams of protein. If your diet is a deficient in protein, it can make a difference.

Whey protein is basically a byproduct of cheese production. It's not a steroid, it's not a magical substance, it's just concentrated protein.

You still need to do the work in the gym, eat a clean diet, and get the proper rest for it to it's job.

Just don't have any unrealistic expectations that you are going to get massive because you down a serving or two of whey protein. Many successful body builders find they don't need it because they get everything they need from ordinary food. It might be nice to have, though, if you feel your diet is low in protein.

All proteins help to rebuild muscle but their are many different qualities of protein. Some whey proteins are of very poor quality and will not give your muscles the tools it needs to rebuild and repair muscle fibers. In the end you are just wasting your time and money and not getting any results. If you are using a cheap powder, I would recommend using promax, which is of a higher quality protein . It costs around £30 a tub and should last you a month. I believe that When you buy a powder it is always better to spend a bit more and get the right stuff for the job. After a heavy workout it is best mixed with water not milk as your body absorbs water better.
Remember your muscles won't settle for any old rubbish, it demands the right fuel just like a car. If you can't really afford to spend up to 25 to 30 pounds on a powder then I would suggest that you eat chicken breast and tuna fish, these two meats provide very high quality protein. The body can only absorb 30 to 50 grams of protein per meal so don't try and take to much at once.

A good rule of thumb is to make sure you are getting 1g of protein for every pound you weigh. So if you weigh 150 lbs, you should take 150g of protein daily to meet your bodies nutritional needs. Anything above this and you'll start packing the pounds on--what the pounds will be (fat or muscle) will depend on your workouts and how many calories you are consuming. yea, protein powder builds mu slues up it is good to have some before you workout and a little after you are finish working out.
