Absolutely not. So many germs are spread by blowing your nose that they can't all possibly be collected by blowing into a napkin. And if you're in a nice restaurant, it would be apalling to blow your nose into a linen napkin and leave it for someone else to clean. How disgusting!

But I'm not necessarily in agreement with the addition to the question. Yes, I have seen caregivers bring the elderly into restaurants, and I believe that they get somewhat of a free pass on these issues. They're nearing the end of their lives, and I appreciate that someone cares enough for them to give them a few enjoyable moments as they grow older and are unable to do for themselves. It's not the caretaker's responsibility to sort through their patients and determine who is "fit" for society and who isn't ... and it would be a terrible shame to leave someone behind simply because they've lost the ability to function as they did when they were younger and to care for themselves. In these situations, the host/ess or server who seats the table should take care to put them in an unobtrusive spot. The elderly will probably appreciate a quieter spot out of the way, and it wouldn't be obtrusive to patrons.

it truly is okay for a short blow (eg one or 2 tries to sparkling the nostril, at the same time as dealing with remote from the table). yet to carry on like it extremely is disgusting. And to look on the outcomes??? Puh-leeze! regrettably, some human beings won't be able to get it into their thick skulls that their behaviour is hectic/scary/vomit-making to others. I had a pal who used to apply a toothpick on the table after eating, and he or she by no skill said a difficulty with it both. She idea that i became illiberal and also you need to discover an identical. which will mean the answer may be to dodge eating out with your pal, as she only received't end. unhappy yet authentic.

Depends on the restaurant. I've seen people frisking each other at some restaurants while at others you would be kicked out for bad behaviour. I guess blowing your nose could be forgiven as long as it is done with a level of discression.

I think this is gross. A lot of people do it. I wonder what would be an appropriate thing to say, even to family members that blow their nose at the table.

of course not!

It is Not appropriate to blow your nose at the table at home! I was taught to excuse yourself from the table, go blow your nose wash hands, and return to the meal!

How would u like someone snorting away in your face while u are enjoying your meal. Excuse yourself and go to the rest room or a place away from where people are dining.

I think it depends. If you are going to blow it like you are cleaning out debris for the past 5 years then it's better to excuse yourself first. If you are just going to take a swipe at it once because you are eating something spicy for example, then go ahead and take a swipe at it.

OK, I think that it is a bit rude, but as you put in your question, would you rather have them with runny noses or discreetly blow your nose, and with handkerchief in hand excuse themselves?

Into a napkin discreetly yes if you have not other choice. Otherwise you should excuse yourself to the bathroom if you can.
