I always though of tattos as personal expressions of yourself, but ive started to realise, not every 1 get it for that like my friend got a skull on his leg... i was like does it symbolize ne thing?"no its just cool" hmmm.... like my tattoo on my side symbolizes freedon from fear and society...to me its a floc of sparrows flyin and it coves my whole right side... what does your tattos mean

I the 2 sets of two tattoos. The first ones are faeries from a webcomic a friend of mine does. Reason I got them, is not only does is represent my spirituality, but also it's rather unique why to see faeries, atleast tattoo wise, and it's also representation of friendship.
The other set I have is two wolf paws, one on each foot, and when I put my feet next to each other, you can see a wolf's face inside the paws....once again, spirituality. Wolves are my totem animals.
And yes, :) the top of the feet hurt....after two hours in the chair I was so glad it was done. I'm also glad that they took so well and didn't need much touch ups, because a few lines that I did have to have touched up were amazingly painful, thanks to that wonderful scar tissue the forms when you get a tattoo. But I am still glad I got it done.
I'm also planning more, but gonna wait until I have some money saved up for it.
And I check around here to save my sanity too. Mental breaks are needed during the day.

I have 6 tattos now, 3 are Native American related - a dreamcatcher, a wolf with Navajo writing, a wolf paw print, I also have an Eygptian Eye of Horus. These I have as I am fasinated by Native American and Eygptian Culture and Life. Another that I have is a small black Dragon, which is related to my love of fantasy, myth and magic etc. And the last one in a black design that I found completely at random that struck me as soon as I saw it, it doesn't really mean anything as such, I just loved it immediately.
I do have another in the planning, but cannot decide where to have it, again its related to myth and magic as it's a quote from my favourite fantasy epic Lord of the Rings, but I want it in Elvish writing.

I have four tattoos and none of them really have a symbolic meaning. I drew the designs myself and just thought they would look really nice tattooed on me. The one on my arm is a heart shaped peace sign with barbed wire wrapping through it and going up in a cross shape. Everyone always ask what it stands for...my answer is "I got really bored one day and started drawing". Thats the truth but everything thinks I'm just being sarcastic. One day people will realize and understand that some people just like getting inked.

My lily tattoo represents strength and beauty while dealing with chronic pain. The spot where it sits is on the exact place where I am in constant pain. It helps me to know that there is something beautiful back there.
My angelfish is for my husband. It's the beginning of a calf sleeve. I love the ocean and tropical fish. He said that if I ever got a fish tatt, it had to be an angelfish. So, I did :)
I have more planned. I snow owl, moon phases, shawl of peacock feathers and a dragon sleeve on the other leg, just to name a few. All of these designs have meaning to me. I didn't get any of mine just because I thought they were cool. I got them to express who and what I am permanently. I like to tell the stories behind them. Yours sounds neat. I would love to see it :)

Koi is a fairly popular stereotypical Japanese image. I known at least one person with a koi tattoo. But you're right, it's not half as common as cheesy tribals and tramp stamps! It's not the most original thing, but it's uncommon enough not to be embarassing, I'd say. It might be common some places, but if it isn't among the people you meet, that's really what matters.

I have multiple tattoos. I have a dragon which to me means strength. I have a grim reaper with a rose in his mouth which reminds me of what I have been through and that darkness is never far behind but the rose reminds me you can always make it through for new beginings. I believe every tattoo should symbolize something.... but that is just my opinion.

None of mine mean anything. It was just something to do while doing time
Prison tattoos are done with home-made needles, some needles are made of paper clips or stapes, some people had home made tattoo guns using a small motor. I've seen some use a ballpoint pen to hold the needle. For ink we would use pen ink or ink made from melted plastic. Whatever we could get our hands on.

My celtic knot shamrock (soon to be a much larger piece) is a sign on my heritage and where I come from....the stars across the top of my back are just a design I came up with and drew up because I liked it, no real meaning except that it was my own creation.

hey tig :) wicked question!
i think its messed up to get a tatto just cos at the moment in time you thought it would look cool, people get bored quickly and if i were to that as often as i change my clothing i would be surrounded with a bunch of tattoos that mean nohting and il probably hate.
im designing my own tattoo that means something to me and the four things i like to keep in mind while im alive. its four chinese symbols in a column that mean health, kindness, passion and wisdom.
Your tattoo sounds awesome, i hope to oneday design one for myself as meaningful as yours!
