i don't think he feels the same way (i know he doesn't but hope otherwise) but I kinda want to get in touch with him and see how things go or should I save whatever dignity I have left and pray he leaves sooner rather than later?

Just give him a call. Nothing wrong with that. AVoiding people is not the way to live. But accept that there is no more love between the two of you - and don't try to change that.

I guess it depends on how/why the breakup occured but generally I'd say go for it and get a hold of him. You never know but he may be missing you, too. Just contact him to be cordial not to restart a relationship. Then just let things go from there.

Sorry! BAD IDEA! Men are vultures and love easy preys. If you give him a call and he feels that you will be an easy lay you might just get what you want and end up being miserable, if not pregnant.
It happened to a lot of my women friends. Those who believe that first love never dies and tried to hook up with their exes. I have yet to see a happy ending. Try to hook up with him and try to be friends,that's it. But don't call him.Have some self-respect.

I wouldn't call him if i were you ,I think it would make me very sad and upset if he answeres me like I am a stranger which possibly would happen if the guy is already over you..but again it's up to you ....
