I have hair that's not quite as long as yours (mine's about waist length, and dark brown), and I'm 51. I enjoy having it long, and I like having the option to put it up for formal occasions. However, it is your hair, and you should do what you want with it. I don't think age has anything to do with how long your hair should be. My grandmother had really long hair - probably as long as yours - until she died at age 92!

Hi,

I don't think that you are too old for long hair. What I would say to anyone though is if the hair is in bad condition, get a good cut, it will look loads better.

Graduated 'bobs' are really fashionable at the moment so if YOU want to cut it do it now, you can always grow it again.

I'm 16 and had really long hair once. I said I'd never get it cut because it took so long to grow and I didn't want to go through all that again. But eventually my mum persuaded me to get it cut and layered to my shoulders. I loved it and I kept thinking "I should've done this ages ago".
So I'd go for it, it's nice to have a change.
But pick a style that suits your face shape. I've got an oval face and my hairdresser says I'm ok with most styles.
Maybe get something a bit longer than a bob. At least the first time.

hi ther i am a hairdresser and think that you know ur self what u need to do. i would say to you if you can to me that it is to long for ur age and that u should cut it to ur bra strap first as cutting it to a bob would freak you out. just because u are 40 doesnt mean u cant have long hair, it just means u have to be wise about how it is. it would be more faltering if u took it up , you would be able to style it more also. if u are determined to cut it up do it one step at a time, so u can get used to it every step of the way. it is a big step for u and i think u are being wise to ask but dont just jump in. its about looking good at all ages, cutting it up to ur bra and with some layers would make a huge difference that u would probably stay at that length for a while. long hair at that length can start to make u look dated as we get to our 30's +, iv jst cut mine of to so dont be put of. lots aluck Lx

i think that long hair is awsome you should not cut it because u can do more with long hair than with short because you will get tired of the same style for to long.
i u want somthing different u should just wear it different DON'T cut it.
and if u still want to cut it just cut a little, like at ur back or something.

i know from experience i really regetted it.
hair take a long time to get that long to so keep it long

I don't think really long hair looks nice on anyone. Shoulder length is nice I wouldn't go for a bob as its too drastic after having it so long. Maybe you should do something like 5 inches at a time.

You know what? Don't listen to those people who try to tell you when you get to a certain age you must cut your hair. If you ever notice they are usually dried up old biddies with butch cuts themselves. Cutting your hair short when you get past a certain age is saying, "I'm no longer desirable as a sexual partner and my ovaries have stopped producing."

I seen a show the other day on TV the Greg somebody or other show. They were doing makeovers. Some woman on there had blond hair to her butt. They cut it shorter although it was still long, but honestly she looked better and younger with the long hair.

As long as your hair pleases you, keep it.

Well, as you age, your hair tends to change texture. I say chop it all off into a cute little bob and donate it to locks of love. Thats what I recently did. If you hate it, your hair will always grow back.

maybe to your bottom is a bit long but that doesn't mean you have to have it cut short. i think women need to worry about the clothes they wear rather than the hair but i think if it were me i would have it to my shoulders or shorter. go on girl, give yourself a new look, and i'm sure your hubby will love it!
