Kids can absolutely do yoga. And the funniest things is that they are better at it then adults. There are many videos and books out there. But to really be impressed check out yogakids.com.
It is certification for teachers to teach yoga in schools and classrooms and just recently there was an article in Yoga +
I mean common sense says that children probably shouldnt be trying to do the Ashtanga series, or a taking a Bikram class and no one should really do advance poses unless they are experienced or being guided. And of course for a child without all the tension that adults have it would be more about balance and focus than stretching in my opinion.

I think its a great idea and is the start of a healthy routine. As a stay at home dad, I find it hard to find the time (and the uncluttered floor space!!) to do yoga on a regular basis, but when I do occasionally lie on my back with legs in the air up against the wall, my 2 year old son loves to mimic me and do the same. Its a big game for him and a great opportunity for some quiet time together.

Oh No!! I have a book called "Itsy Bitsy Yoga" and my son and I have done it since he was a newborn!! He loves it! It's really fun and it was a great thing for us to do before he could move around on his own, and he is 22 months now and still loves doing it! He asks to do it! You are NOT forcing your child into positions but rather playing with him and you are both moving around.
Check it out at your local bookstore and you'll see that it is a fun book and easy for you and your child!

As long as it's about fun and health and remaining flexible (which all young children are) it's great. It won't hurt them. If it becomes a big fuss over weight and perfection and control then they won't enjoy it and it won't be doing them any good. There's no beginning or ending age to it's benefits as long as they enjoy it.

Children should play. They should play outdoor games and sweat.
If you don't do that ,you are spoiling your childhood. So forget about the TV , Video games or Yoga. Go Play and enjoy!!

why on earth would you want a child to do yoga, to let them be concerned about weight too early? I don't think it's right at all to have a 4 yr old getting in the tree position.
