It IS a gift. There are some things to bear in ming:
We are ALL blessed with a spirit guide (or guarian angel, if you like). This is a spirit being who has as one of its functions your spiritual protection and well-being. Ask for your guides protection and you will have it. Always be respectful of those you speak to in this regard (the spirit entities and human ones) and you will not attract unsavory characters. Think about your intentionallity - who are you and what do you stand for and what do you intend with this gift. State it upfront in clear and concise terms and you will only attract others of similar intent. For example you might wish to say something about yourself like: "My intent is good and pure. Under the guidance and protection of my spirit guide I wish to help myself and others on our path of spiritual growth and learning that all my find their highest truth." Formulate some statement like that that is true for you and repeat it whenever you feel you might be making contact. This will help keep things clear and clean.
Do good with your gift or do nothing with it.

It can be a gift for sure, but don't get all enraptured by a wonderful event that made you feel that you were contacted. The wonder and beauty of our world and what is unknown is the greatest gift of all. At any age you can see the world in all the unknown splendour like that of a child. If you think you have been given a gift, trust in your inner self, your intuitive spirit and accept the wonder and splendor of this and keep it as a reminder of how special and loved you are. The answer is within you.

it is a gift if you are contacted by Will of God.
it is also a gift if you worship satan and satanic messengers come
it is a plague and a curse if you dont want them, or cause severe mental stress.
Ive had hundreds if not thousands of dreams that ARE NOT from God. They hurt almost every time. Some can be quite seductive, some have messages that are not understood, so why bother. but most are just a pain to receive.

and it IS good. contact with loved ones, and mediumism and other forms of ability that allow contact by incorporeals and the deceased is a gift from god.
it IS holy in general, I've never understood why people get this silly idea its from evil things, why the hell would the evil things want to give you something like that? it doesn't make any sense.
