Like heck I will .. I'm in Canada and it's frickin cold outside .. lol

Seriously though, you shouldn't have to either. An airconditioner should work well enough that it cools a room gradually, and keeps it at a desired temperature. Where are you? Terribly hot out? Perhaps it's too small for the size of room you're using it in? Need more info, please.

It may be that you've not sealed off the source of incoming air sufficiently for it to keep up with the draft coming in. At the very least .. keep doors shut and all other windows shut or it's useless.

Depends on a lot here.
Is it a window mount unit or a whole house unit attached to a furnace/air handler?
If it's a window unit there's not much you can do with it other than have it cleaned.

Air conditioners work by first removing the humidity in the room/house, before lowering the temperature.
Do you open the windows for long periods before turning on the A/C?
In hot humid weather it's better to leave the house closed up so the unit can keep up.
If it's a whole house unit, your filter may be in need of replacement. Or your blower (fan) could be plugged with dirt and need cleaning.
Are all your return air registers clear of blockages?
The evaporator coil could be getting plugged with dirt and restricting air flow.

Is the condensor unit (The outside unit) clear of debris, you need to maintain a couple of feet around the outdoor unit to allow it to "breathe", or the coils of the outdoor unit could be plugged up with dirt and need cleaning.
Or your unit could just be low on freon.
There are lots of other factors most are based on proper air flow across the coils in order to exchange warm air for cool air.
The unit size, duct size, and the system being balanced properly are also factors.

Your best bet is to call a reputable Heating/AC contractor in your area and have them go over your whole system.
Most contractors will offer specials on "clean and checks" at certain times of the year.
Hope this helps you out.

I have an air conditioner that does not seem to blow a lot of air but it is cool. I placed a fan on a stool about one foot in front of it and that helped.

Get the single that is rated for the scale of your room. 7000 btu's is in basic terms sufficient for one hundred fifty squareft. If an air conditioner has an more suitable BTU score than the corresponding room length, the unit will cycle off too straight away, and the air conditioner won't good get rid of the humidity from the air.
