as said, pork is nearly impossible to keep safe without modern technology. hell even with modern technology its STILL dangerous compared to beef.

>>"Can you imagine a supreme being caring about what I eat? Petty. "<<

... you do realize that scientifically pork is a far dirtier meat, and more prone to stuff like bacterial problems and parasites and stuff.

seems pretty slick for a supreme being to give his chosen people a leg up on that whole health thing by giving them a list of things they shouldn't eat.

"because I say so" is a much more effective answer than an explanation that can't be understood by the person hearing it. (c'mon, when those rules were in place would explaining that theres a bunch of things you can't see living on stuff and whatnot... I mean that is even harder to accept at the time)

like wild shellfish. from my understanding red tide or somethin glike that was a life threatening issue that would PERMENANTLY poison any of the crustaceans that were exposed to it, to avoid this... simply ruling it out.

pretty much all predatory species are off the list... because they can gain parasitic infections through what they eat, and you can't verify that they didn't have it, when the rules were put in place, where back in that time before pesticides and such, a cow would eat plants and such... it wouldn't eat meat and be exposed to things like mad cow disease, if there even IS anything it could be exposed to and not naturally neutralize, it would be a far less likely thing than from pigs or shellfish or predators.

it really does make alot of sense if you look at it in a "maybe hes trying to help by giving us a hint on something we don't know about yet" type thing.

I don't know cos I don't follow this religion - but ive looked on the internet and it looks like they don't eat pork cos their ancestors never. However I did find one particular website - where someone talks about a rule in the bible. Well their bible.

Have a look at this:

Most of Judaism, as far as I was taught, in a very reformed Southern California congregation, bases its rules on the Talmud. The Talmud is more a code rules that I think truly shows the anthropological source of religion than any other. The gist of one famous rule is: 'God says don't eat pork because you could die, its dirty.' This is pretty clearly because there was no government FSIS (Food Safety and Inspection Service) and peopel were unlikely to stop eating pork or crab because Yitzack said so. Yitzack goes and tells the Rabbi he thinks worms in pigs cause death via tape worms. Rabbi realizes its smart to not eat port for whatever reason, and voilla "God says don't eat pork." Now - if we can be certain that was the intent behind a jewish dietary law, which I've been taught is a certainly (but I've thought that since i was a kid, maybe I'm wrong.) - doesn't it draw questions to what was the intent behind every thou shall and shalt not? Is everyone intention so pure as my fictional Rabbi? Anyways, with the invention of the FSIS and a moderate investment of trust on my part, the Talmudic dietary laws are no longer a concern. Maybe some people should view the Bible through the same filter.

The real truth to the matter is that the old testament law forbids it. This was because pork could not be stored and treated as it is today so that it was dangerous to eat pork. (Think Salmonella). However, the ot laws were fulfilled by Christ and the NT lists only two great commandments of loving the lord God with all your heart, soul mind and strngth and your fellow people as yourself.
This doesn't mean that some groups have recognised this though and so they still follow the old laws. And thus forbid the eating of pork.

From the Jewish perspective, it was God who told Moses to instruct teh Children of Israel not to eat pork and various other animals (Leviticus 11). Though many have guessed as to why God would prohibit what some consider a very tasty meat, they have been all wrong guesses.

Torah itself doesn't give an answer but simply prohibits. But when we look at today's technology we can now gather information that wasn't available years ago. You see pigs eat refuse and feces. A pig pen usually stinks like a cesspool beause they poop where they eat, and even eat their own poop.

As the old saying goes - You are what You eat.
So when a pig eats poop, then a person eats the pig, its the same as the person eating the poop. Harmful chemicals found in various refuse and feces can have unwanted effects. And for years scientists and doctors cannot explain certain illnesses and why people seem to have continual bad health.

Among other things, a lifetime of eating pork and other unclean meats leads to complications in health, poor health and even cancer. Doctors and scientists cannot find a cause for cancer because they refuse to accept that unclean meats - which are prohibited by God - are the cause.

The direct commandment was given to Israel after escaping from Egypt. Yet in bible study one can see as far back as Noah's time that people (using common sense) knew which animals were clean or unclean.

So, from the Muslim side, having a shared heritage with the Jews through Abraham, the tradition of prohibiting unclean meats would have been passed down.

It is truely sad when Christians abolish God's holy word when He says not to eat unclean meats. Some believe God's word was done away with, but it hasn't. Some think that Peter in Acts and his vision was to kosher unclean foods - it wasn't. Even Peter himself says it had nothing to do with food but with the Gentiles and God accepting them as clean (Acts 10:28).

I think the desert trhing had a lot to do with it. Pigs are not desert animals. They use a lot of water and don't travel well in the heat. I think the only place that they are used in a story is the Gaderine swine of the new testament which are noted as being beside a lake.

As far as the health thing goes pork is no more dangerous than any of the other animals. Beef has a huge range of diseases that you can catch.

“One man has faith to eat everything, but the man who is weak eats vegetables.” Why was that? Well, under the Mosaic Law, pork was not an acceptable food. (Romans 14:2; Leviticus 11:7) However, that Law was no longer binding after Jesus died. (Ephesians 2:15) Then, three and a half years after Jesus’ death, an angel told the apostle Peter that from God’s standpoint no food should be viewed as defiled. (Acts 11:7-12) With these factors in mind, some Jewish Christians may have felt that they could eat pork—or enjoy some other food that had been prohibited under the Law.

However, the very thought of eating those formerly unclean foods would likely have been repulsive to other Jewish Christians. Such sensitive ones might have felt instinctively offended at seeing their Jewish brothers in Christ eating such food. Moreover, certain Gentile Christians, whose religious background likely never included dietary prohibitions, may have been puzzled that anyone would make an issue over food. Of course, it was not wrong for someone to abstain from certain foods, as long as he did not insist that such abstinence was necessary to gain salvation. Still, the different viewpoints could easily have fueled controversy in the congregation. The Christians in Rome would need to be careful that such differences did not prevent them from glorifying God “with one mouth.”

No! Not at all!

The Bible prohibits consumption of pork or the flesh of swine in Leviticus 11:7 and Deuteronomy 148 because "it is unclean" and unclean also means "diseased" or "unhealthy", and the pig is a scavenger and therefore a carrier of disease.

Muslims and "Jewish people" are in possession of genuine Scripture while the Bible is a corrupt form of Scripture with additions from pagan Rome and from worshippers of the Sun God or Weather God Zeus.

Christians say Jesus died for their sins so they consume pork in the belief that they can sin no more, but that does not say that the pork does not put them at risk with its diseased flesh.

Many religious injunctions which are common to Judaism and Islam were in fact health rules. Pigs carried tapeworm and the easiest way to stop people eating them was to say God forbids it. Any un-circumcised man who has had sand under his foreskin might also think that, if you live in a sandy region then circumcision is not such a bad idea. OK guys, you can now uncross your legs.

Mohamed didn't crib from the Jewish religion. Islam respects the prophets of the old Testament and also acknowledges Jesus as a great prophet, but not as the son of God. Jesus never claimed to be the son of God.

In the Old Testament, this WAS a command from God.
But in the New Testament, this scripture implies that such directives were removed.
(Acts 10:9-16) The next day as they were pursuing their journey and were approaching the city, Peter went up to the housetop about the sixth hour to pray. 10 But he became very hungry and wanted to eat. While they were preparing, he fell into a trance 11 and beheld heaven opened and some sort of vessel descending like a great linen sheet being let down by its four extremities upon the earth; 12 and in it there were all sorts of four-footed creatures and creeping things of the earth and birds of heaven. 13 And a voice came to him: “Rise, Peter, slaughter and eat!” 14 But Peter said: “Not at all, Lord, because never have I eaten anything defiled and unclean.” 15 And the voice [spoke] again to him, the second time: “You stop calling defiled the things God has cleansed.” 16 This occurred a third time, and immediately the vessel was taken up into heaven.
