All possible destruction can bring about end of human species (esp. in case of nuclear war) and even end of vegetation, but no amount of destruction can ever end this world, because THIS WORLD IS not something existing outside of ITSELF. Any destructive agent is but a product of this world and it can, at the most, annihilate some corner, some species, some planets, some stars, but not the world itself.

As far as social tensions are concerned ( e.g. rivalry among powerful and between weak nations, ethnic violence, war, crime etc) they affect nature adversely and may bring about disaster like deluge due to global warming and subsequent calamities, but these social tensions can be resolved by human will and struggle.
This is how it has happened many of the times in human history. Don't forget that the world has been more uncivil and equally cruel in the past, but people have fought and found the way out each time.
So stop worrying and start working. Find a solution by hard work and conscientious understanding.

While its true as some have said, that we hear more about such things because of the media, its also true that never before have these things been taking place on such a large scale. Wars used to be fought in hand-to-hand combat. Now they're fought with weaponry that can kill hundreds of thousands of people at a time with not even a soldier in the vacinity. In the past, child abuse may have been prevalent, but it isn't even a comparison to the viciousness and brutality of today. Now you see parents killing their children simply because they don't fit into their lifestyles. (ex. - Susan Smith) You're right...it is total madness. The world (as in earth) won't end, but the system of things ruled by Satan will. And it will be soon. As the Bible says at Matthew 24:22: "In fact, unless those days were cut short, no flesh would be saved..."

For those who are saying things have always been this way, you're fulfilling Bible prophecy. 2 Peter 3:3, 4 says: For you know this first, that in the last days there will come ridiculers with their ridicule, proceeding according to their own desires and saying: "Where is this promised presence of his? Why, from the day our forefathers fell asleep in death, all things are continuing exactly as from creation's beginning."

As opposed to the 1930's, when the global economy shook because of the U.S. depression, or the 1940's during WW II or the 50's in Vietnam? Or the 90's with Saddam still in power and Bosnia and ETA and Chechens and Russians blowing each other up? The end of the world as you know it will be when you die. Stop worrying about the bad things in life and enjoy the good ones. Live life a little. Chances are you will never have to go to war, deal with destruction, or child abuse, so till death comes, enjoy life.

Armageddon [ in the Bible] will bring an end to the system we now know. Almighty God through Jesus, will rid the world of wickedness. The world itself will not end.
(Psalm 37:29) The righteous themselves will possess the earth, And they will reside forever upon it.
FOREVER UPON IT...
(Ecclesiastes 1:4) A generation is going, and a generation is coming; but the earth is standing even to time indefinite.
standing to time indefinite...
(Psalm 104:5) He has founded the earth upon its established places; It will not be made to totter to time indefinite, or forever.
NOT BE MADE TO TOTTER...
Three scriptures that say the same thing.

The current-day troubles are minuscule compared to those that people endured during the last century. The race survived that; it will survive this. The end of the world is not due until April 1, 5,000,000,147 AD, when the sun goes red giant and eats the earth. Don't wait up.

You better change into your nike sweatpants and shoes! Where's the creapy looking guy? He knows where the UFO is that you need to get on. War, abuse, etc. has always been there and there has always been someone claiming the end of the world is here. They sometimes even give a date for it to end. When the date comes and the world is still here they try another date.

Things like this have been going on for centuries. The Romans thought it was the end of the world and that Nero was the Antichrist. The only thing that makes it different now is that its everywhere you look, TV, Internet, news paper. It is always in your face. I don't think we have anything to worry about for now at least.
