Is that reasonable?

It is not considered 'cool' at their school to take a packed lunch.

When I went to school I was on the free lunch program. My parents didn't make that much income during the year. That is how I got on it. I don't know if they still do that or not. That was like 30 + years ago.

2 kids x 5 meals = 10 meals per week thats £3 a meal that does seem a little bit expensive, but it all depends on the quality of the meals they are getting, and whether or not they are actually eating it all. My five year old stays for school lunch, its great value for us £8 per week and its good healthy stuff, and as its a small school we get feed back from the dinnerladies as to how much she ate.

i used to spend about £1.50 , "2 including snacks each day when i was at school, so that seems reaosnable, considering it has been about 3 years since i left schol and probably another 2 since i had school dinner, packed lunches may not be considered cool but the food is definitely better!

I am now 23 and went to a school where packed lunch wasn't cool but i still took it - and was glad as i didn't want to eat all the junk they serve in the lunchtimes!
Why not just give your kids the packlunch and no money- tell them once they start earning they can then eat what they like but in the meantime they'll eat what u give them! (Worked for my parents ;-)

cool or not I would send mine with the coolest packed lunch in the coolest lunch box because I would not let my kids eat the muck produced in schools unless I felt I could'nt cook them a proper meal in the evening. I think the English system is bad primary school kids should be kids and the school itself should encourage getting rid oof extra bills for school diners particularly seeing as they are mainly chips and nuggets etc.
Dont follow the crowd I'd teach my kids to be different!

3 children, £24 a week.
We tried packed lunches, but there wasn't much difference in price, the butties worked out a little cheaper, but the cost plus the hassle outweighed the price difference.

That's expensive! My sons school only charge £6.50 a week and I think that's great value for what they get. They don't have a tuck shop but they are encouraged to take fruit for break times.

I pay 8.25 a week-1.65 per day. 30 pounds for 2 kids seems a bit extortionate!!

hi
i had same problem when my daughter was in school, she has left now, what i used to do is give her a weekly allowance of £15.00, but her sat pocket money was only a £5. so if she wanted anything personnel, or wanted to go to cinema she used to save some out of her weekly money, it works try it, but don't give in and say oh i will give you this for that on sat let them find the value of money it helps them honest
