Excellent idea! Just tell your friend to make it clear that the couple wishes to pick out the selection and that she has to agree to pay for what THEY want...

Can't understand why it's at all important who pays for the rings.
If the choosing and purchasing of the rings is something they want to keep intimate and between the 2 of them then they should say so. If they want to keep the choosing private but don't mind her paying then why not?
I am sure there must be a reason the sister is offering to pay, it's not an everyday sort of thing to think of doing. Maybe she is more wealthy and this is her way of ensuring they can choose what they really want.

As long as both bride and groom get to pick out the rings or will be happy with the choices then that sounds like a wonderful, incredibly sweet thing to do. If the feelings on it are good, then it should be a good idea.

That's very generous of the the groom's sister - sounds OK as long as the groom pays her back. Traditionally, the engagement and wedding rings for the bride are paid for by the groom, and then the bride pays for the groom's wedding band.

I'm trying to picture my husband's sister offering that. Oh yeah...her mother in law bought their wedding rings. Sorry. Can't stretch my overactive imagination that far. I'd say go with the flow.

I'm with the majority here, it is a very sweet gesture. And the couple should be able to choose the rings or at least like the ones that were chosen.

So what. If she wants to do that as their wedding gift go ahead as long as the bride and groom pick it out of course. I see nothing wrong with it. I'd been more than happy to let someone else pay for mine. :)

as long as the couple gets to pick them out, then it is a very generous offer from the sister. Unless she is a control freak who can't stay out of her brothers life, which in that case the bride to be needs to move on or live a life of misery.

Someone else wants to buy them as a gift??? I think that would be great, if you and your fiance get to pick them out of course... If you all get what you want, but someone else is going to pay WHY NOT???? That will help you out in the long run.

personally, I don't think it is appropriate, these two people are adults right? adults should pay their own way and I think it spells doom for a marriage that hasn't even started if they can't or won't pay for their own rings (or he for them both)
no, there seems something off about that (think of the symbolism, it is icky somehow)...if the sister wants to give them a nice gift great but not their wedding bands!...anyway, that's my opinion. ultimately, it is up to them...
