If you've been drinking heavily for a long time then it's best to withdraw under medical supervision. If you're severely dependant and suddenly stop you could have some major symptoms like hallucinations, seizures, delirium, etc. How long has it been since you've drank? I can't really answer this because you didn't say how long and how heavily you have used. Alot of times the milder symptoms like shakiness and anxiety may reach their peak after a week. I'd recommend seeing a doctor. They can give you things to help treat the withdrawal symptoms and then get you into some counseling to help with the psychological aspects of addiction and other problems that may have contributed or sustained your dependence on booze.

Alcohol withdrawal can be fatal in extreme cases. (VERY RARE 1/15,000 severe cold turkey quitter cases) So do not use this as an excuse to drink again. Time is the only cure. I would say smoke some marijuana, but that's not the solution to any problems, either, though it will enable you to get to sleep within the next 24 hours or so without screwing up your serotonin levels like most sleeping pills will. If you experience severe shaking, go to the hospital. If the shakes are mild, then keep yourself hydrated, and steel yourself for about 36 hours of sleeplessness. Your physical symptoms should go away in about 3 days. Your psychological cravings will continue whenever you are in a situation in which you would get drunk usually, so have someone to talk to, start a new activity or hobby you have never done before but always wanted to; To help you through difficult periods.

Untreated alcohol withdrawal can have mortality rates of up to 30-40%
You should not be trying to treat this at home without help.
If you are having severe symptoms, call an ambulance and go to a hospital.
If you are having mild symptoms see your family doctor as a matter of priority and arrange for some medication to help.

I think you should go see a doctor. Remember to drink lots of water to flush your system. One of my friends parents quite drinking and they got a colonic to help with the cleansing process. 100% fruit juices, water are the main things you need hydrate yourself with.
