Because somebody in congress had a brother-in-law that sold insurance.
If I had a brother-in-law in congress you would have to buy horse feed, since that's what I do. Isn't this a fine system we got here?

There reason most states have gone to a mandatory car insurance law is fairly simple.
People were driving with out insurance getting into accidents. People who were injured in accidents were sent to hospitals and incured huge medical bills, as well as the damage or loss of a vehicle. To curb huge amounts of money lost by hospitals, or persons treated at hospitals due to accidents. Many states made it mandatory to have car insurance. This protects the insured from losing huge amounts of money from an accident. Now if you think it's a waste to have auto insurance imagine if you got into an accident, had to go to the hospital for treatment, and lost use of your car. If neither you or the other driver had insurance, who would pay your medical bills, repair or replacement of your car? Would you want to foot the bill? with insurance, the insurance company pays the medical bill, repairs or replaces your car, the only money you would be out is your deductable.

You have to have insurance to protect yourself if you are in a wreck or something. If you have a wreck you will be glad you have it not only for the repair of your car but for medical. Unless you have lots of money you would not be able to afford the expense for everything. And for the person that said cops do not have insurance does not know what he is talking about if you are county cop the county provides the insurance if are a city cop the city provides the insusrance.

Basically what leftovers said. It's just legal extortion. You either pay them money for insurance, or you get caught without it and have to pay an even larger sum of money. Either way, you're f*cked. The best part is, you pay allllll that money for insurance and may never even get into an accident, and even if you do? Good luck getting all the money you need. Basically you wind up paying, idk.. $7,000 in exchange for knowing that if something bad ever does happen, you'll get $300 to help you pay for the accident at the time it happens (if it ever does). Pretty sh*tty deal, huh? You could just, not have insurance, and save that $7000 so that if you get in an accident - you have $7000 to help pay things off, instead of $300. But obviously big companies can't make money that way, LoL. It's their way of bending us over, visciously raping us, and then conning us into thinking that it's somehow good for us, while they walk away laughing and counting the cash. In exchange, we smile and thank them.

First you have to put yourself into the idea that you have insurance and the driver of another vehicle doesn't. Suppose you have an accident with that person and they do not have insurance. You have no recourse but to claim the accident under your insurance....rate goes up.....and for that very uninformed "cprucka" Police vehicle ARE self-insured by the Municipality they work for. I guess he is just one of the very anti-police persons on this site. Could it be that he has run afoul of the Police before......

It depends on what kind of insurance one gets.....
Such as, "renters" insurance is not always necessary.....
Homeowner's insurance is to cover the expenses of a home that becomes lost to fire, weather (sometimes), and people..... It covers the belongings as well as the house and not only that.. in cases where someone gets hurt on your property......
Car insurance is basically for when you do harm to someone else..... Cops want to make sure that whomever is hurt will be covered because of your faults......

It's only law if your not a cop. Police vehicles are not insurened. God, what does it take for everyone to realise they are on one side and you are one the other and you are not important.
