Does he want us to give and give to Him with no hope of his giving anything back to us? Does He want us to follow a set of rules?
Does He want us to love Him and seek to know and understand Him?

What's your opinion?

I ask because there are some people who live in fear of God and think that they just have to give, give, give and God isn't loving and someone that you can at least seek to understand.

i dont know how serious your question is...

short answers:

God wants to give you Abundant Joy not quick happyness

God never asked anything other than you to believe in his Son--all worship we give is for our well being not his... We give because we want too not because we have too...

the "set of rules" were given to lead us to his Son Jesus Christ because: the rules were ment to be broken, we were born siners yet the only way out is threw Christ Jesus... the Rules were made to point to Jesus...

He gave us freedome to choose rather or not we love him, seek him, or understand him... Just as you would want your child to love you, seek you, and understand you...

my openion? this is not about openion--
its about truth....

thanks...

My friend, God has given us far more then we could ever give back to HIM. He does not need anything we have and actually, it would be like a child telling his or her parents that they were going to give them the money to by food for the next week as they hand them a dime. Good gesture but we know it will not work.

God did establish a set of rules..but it was to show us that a set of rules would not work. This is why Jesus came to give His life for us so that we could live forever with Him. HE Gave so we could live.

John 10:10 says that Jesus came to give us life and to give it to us more abundantly.

You did hit the nail on the head with the last statement..."Does He want us to love Him and seek to know and understand Him?"

YES...God does want a relationship with us. He does not want us to practice a religion. He wants an intimate relationship with is so that we can be HIS child and HE our DAD!

We can only obtain this by trusting in Jesus for full payment for our sin. The link below will show how to do this.

Once we have...we become a CHILD of GOD.

No, yes and yes. If we seek to know and understand him, then we will come to love him. We will realise that the rules he has set are for our good. As we come to know him more fully we will want to give more of ourselves to him, and the more we give, the more we receive. God has given us life now, and the promise of life eternal, if we accept Jesus as our lord and saviour. Who could ask for more? What a great God!

For those who do not believe that God is love (and, since we are created in his image that means we also have the capacity to love) check out 1 Corinthians chapter 13 in the New Testament to find out how love works in our relationships with each other.

Never giving anything back?!?! Did I read that right??? Where do you think your very life came from? The breath in your nostrils was given to you by God! This new day is given to you by God! He wants us to follow a set of rules so that we don't destroy ourselves. I want my children to follow my rules so that they don't run into the road & get hit by a car! Does that make me a terrible parent? God's rules are in place out of His love for us. Of course He wants us to love Him & seek Him & know Him. That's the whole point of Jesus' death. He made a way for us to reach Him through His Sons sacrifice on the cross.

If God didn't love us He wouldn't have made the sacrifice He did. He wouldn't have given us an "instruction book" for how to live. How quickly we are to read "self-help" books & follow their rules to a better life yet we balk at the idea of following God's rules.

Does that seem dumb to anyone other than me?

If there was a God, then (s)he would want us all to be equal, good, and respect him/her and every other living being. However, man has hijacked the idea of religion and god/creator etc, put their ideas and thought on the way that we live, what wars we need to fight and who we should dislike etc., therefore we now see the 'benefits?' and reap the seeds that have been sown...
My opinion is that most organised religions have a very distorted view on what any creator (if any) would like us to be, behave and understand.

Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.

My opinion is that which God himself gives. God wants to love us and have us love him in return. Not because we have to, but because we want to. Because we are so thankful for all he does for us that we can truly love him with all our being. He wants all men (people) free of the chains of the adversary and for all men (people) to be able to manifest the same love to him and each other so that everyone is blessed. He is a loving father and not a God of strife and envy. Those who teach fire and brimstone, or that God should be feared are false prophets, speaking for the enemy of God. They do not serve the one true God for God is love and in him is no darkness at all.

As for giving and giving. It's not the right way. God gives and expects us to receive soemtimes. Because if all we do is give and give we burn our selves out and there is no blessing or profit to us and God is into everyone profiting. So tell your friends who think they should give and give to take a break and give God a chance to give to them. And tell them not to be afraid, as God does not judge in the way men do, he judges the intents of the heart and is a rewarder of those who even by accident do the things he wants all men to do (ie, love care, help and bless).

He wants us to realize that humans are incapable of ruling ourselves successfully and he also wants us to try to live our lives in harmony with his will. (Use Christ as an example).

He WILL give back to us, but we have to be patient because he will take action to set things straight once mankind has had enough time to try out every form of government. After that, he'll set up his Kingdom which will rule over earth with Christ as King. Those who have died have the prospect of being resurrected to life on earth where the conditions will have drastically changed to what they were meant to be - paradisaic. Death will be done away with. (1 Corinthians 15:26)

There are standards that are set out in the Bible for us to follow. 2 Timothy 3:16, 17 teaches that "All scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work."

He does want us to love him and get to know him. (John 17:3; James 4:8)

Love is both ways.

We can do anything for the one we love, which means that If we love God we would follow what he has ordained for us. If we do that, He will love us in turn.

Infact there is a hadith al-Qudsi (these are sayings which were the words of the Prophet [pbuh] himself but were inspired by God as opposed to Quran which is the word of God delivered by the Prophet [pbuh] verbatim) which says (remember this is God saying ..)....

“I am close to the thought that My servant has of Me, and I am with him whenever he recollects Me. If he remembers Me in himself, I remember him in Myself, and if he remembers Me in a gathering, I remember him better than those in the gathering do, and if he approaches Me by as much as one hand’s length, I approach him by a cubit, and if he approaches Me by a cubit, I approach him by two hands’ length. If he takes a step towards Me, I run towards him.”

This is so much Love!!

Only if you want, I can give you many more references from the Qur'an and hadith. I mentioned the above hadith because I love these words and the meaning of these words.

Life can be difficult at times with many choices. Thats why God gave us a guide called "The Holy Bible". He wants you to follow that guide because it has all the answers.
