what is wrong with just abiding with this role for weddings ? I am not engaged, but in the bible it tells us to have shoulders covered, but how much is to be covered?

I've never heard this one. Want to post the actual text?

This probably comes from clergy as most think you should be respectful inside a church or synagog; and that strapless dresses don't fall into this category. But strapeless is the trend now,and you may be hard pressesd to find something that isn't.

They want something like this

You might get by with something like this

If you already have you're heart set on a particular dress & this isn't your home church, you might want to look into another venue.

While God does want us to be decent and respectable (light of the world, salt of the earth, etc) - He does not want us to live by a ton or rules like that. That is why he sent Jesus. In the old testiment there many rules about clothing, food, etc - but Jesus freed us from those bonds.

So - my answer - pick a gown that is comfortable to you. Don't worry about exact number of inches to cover! If you are not ashamed, neither is God. If in doubt, pray about it:)

I'd say the principle is to be modest, and cover all the appropriate parts. For me, that's shoulders, not too low cut, and not too much higher than knee length.

Wow, well no wonder why my preacher looked at my dress the way he did! It was strapless...I wish I would've known :( I think(to look best) it should be floor length and a train would be GORGEOUS...That would've been my first choice of dress but in the market in my area all they sell is strapless(almost all)

I don't know. BTW, I have never read that in the Bible. Are you sure it says that?
