Yes I have heard of it. She is doing it because it keeps her safe. She thinks everyone is evil and salt helps to get rid of evil.

The traditional use of salt to keep evil spirits at bay was done by drawing a line across ones doorstep, kind of like the voodoo powder in the movie "The Skeleton Key". To throw it AT a person as they come into her house does not really ring any ritual bells, but often the psychology of doing something that makes you FEEL safer often WILL make you safer.... especially from negative energies. Yes, Christianity does believe in spirits.

I used to know a French lady who did this, as far as I know it has nothing to do with her religion.
She ran a bar and when it was quiet she would go outside and sprinkle salt around the door and in the direction of anyone who was walking by.
I understood at the time that it was a good luck ritual designed to get more people into the bar.
On a slightly different note, in Greece you are supposed to throw salt at unwanted visitors to get rid of them!

Throwing salt is to keep evil away. She appears to have a problem as throwing salt on people she is trying to see who the evil person is. If a person reacts then they are evil. She needs to have professional help or something has triggered this for her and she's very scared of something.

Salt has been used as a binding and cleansing agent against evil for ages. When forming a pentagram to be used for summoning demons, salt is used to close the circle.
Another example of salt use is when it is spilt and a pinch is thrown over the left shoulder (The devil sits on that one, you are therefore placating your demon to ensure that you do not get bad luck.)
Also, if you wish to imprison a witch, you must also use rope that has been enthused with salt.
A traditional middle eastern welcome would be to offer bread and salt to your guests.
So, plenty of uses for salt in religion and superstition. But, in my oppinion, your little old lady has gohn completely bonkers and you should, for her own good, arrange for a visit by those nice men in white coats.

Some people are cursed , she put the salt so in case one cursed person gets into her door , salt help that the curse does'nt go inside her house . Also she maybe believes that someone is putting her black magic on her door step , and she does'nt want the visitor to be hurt by that magic , so she put salt in front of him/her .

I think it's to keep evil spirits at bay. You would be best talking to a priest who deals with this sort of thing. They might be able to give you some better ideas. I know that salt is used to cleanse things by some pagans, so maybe this is something similar.

She still believe in witch craft then, because if you watch the Halloween movie "Hocus Pocus", you would see salt would ruin their skin or the evil spirits would not take away their souls. People even put salt of the crucifix.
