I was Diagnosed Bi Polar a few years ago when I was hospitalized. lately I have been having Auditory and Mild Visual Hallucinations. I heard someone say my name out loud at Wal Mart the other day and no one was there. I also have a wave effct going on, like at times everything seems as if its underwater. My father has Schizophrenia as well. Also I hear Music and sounds differently at times like its a damaged cassette tape and the sounds sometimes are sped up and other times dragged out. Thanks for any help you can give me!

Note* I have had a very abusive upbringing. And lived with a Schizophrenic parent for my whole Life. I am 21 years old and have not taken Bi Polar Meds for almost 2 years.

I'm sure that the Yahoo! Answers community doesn't have the expertise to diagnose you correctly in this format. Please return to the hospital, or find a psychologist or psychiatrist to get help with this. Best wishes!

A person who has one parent with schizophrenia only has about a 10% risk of developing the illness. There are different types of schizophrenia and it appears the disorganized type is more hereditary. Bipolar disorder appears to run in families much more than schizophrenia. Are you having these hallucinations while you're experiencing significant manic or depressive symptoms? People with bipolar disorder only have delusions or hallucinations in the midst of a manic, mixed or major depressive episode. If you're taking medication it's possible, but not likely, that these hallucinations may be side effects. Or you could have schizoaffective disorder. You really need to discuss this with your doctor.

"A person experiencing schizophrenia is typically characterized as demonstrating disorganized thinking, and as experiencing delusions or auditory hallucinations. Diagnosis is based on the self-reported experiences of the patient, in combination with secondary signs observed by a psychiatrist, clinical psychologist or other competent clinician.... No objective biological test for schizophrenia exists, though studies suggest that genetics, neurobiology and social environment are important contributing factors."
However, to appear so late in life, without having undergone any trauma, it is likely also that medication for Bipolar disorder can also be the cause, due to side effects. If in doubt, it would be a good idea to see a clinical psychiatrist.

You may be like me and have Electro Magnetic Sensitivity. I heard my name aroung 3 am the other night. Around 6 am, my grandma heard her name. I believe some people can pick up spirits and the voice of God. You may be truely gifted. Is there any chance you have Fibromyalgia? That's where my Electro Magnetic Sensitivity became diagnosed. Grandma and mama have it (FM) too. I also mess up radios when I walk by. And cameras and stuff zonks out on me as soon as I buy them. I totally understand the directions on how to run equipment, but nothing works for me. I see things too. I think it's spirits and stuff God wants me to know...like psychic messeges. I see them eyes open or closed...same image. My mom is bipolar. I am not diagnosed with anything like that, but I'm on Welbutrin because I have Fibromyalgia.
I would talk to my doctor if it bothered me. Once, I asked him about it and he said the world is bigger than we ever know and since I think it's God, I just considered it part of my worship...meditation. Good luck!

You really need to talk to your parents and if they think you have Schizophrenia, you should to the doctor. I think lately you have been feeling neglected, acadmeic gardes slipping, or whatever talk to someone to amke you feel happier. You cant be angry all the time. I watched a video of Schizophrenia and these Dutch kids I felt really sorry. I really want to say good luck and I hope you dont have Schizophrenia, because you wnat to have a good life and its your only life too.

It sounds like you're very worried about being diagnosed with Schizophrenia! I can imagine that its very scary to wonder whats going on with you. Whatever it is, you need to go and speak with a therapist who can help you work through your symptoms. The upside is that you have an awareness that something isn't right. It sounds like you have enough incite to get the help you need and to head off your symptoms before they overwhelm you.

The mind is a very advanced mechanism. In my opinion, accept the fact that you might be going crazy and you won't. It's only when you think you're normal -- when you think you're perfectly fine and everyone else is crazy -- that you really run into trouble.
I think it's kind'a cool, actually. Cherish your (mild) schizophrenia. Every curse is a gift. :)
