Maybe it is good for manipulating large groups of gullible people, or justifiying slavery and ill-treatment of women.

I'm an atheist.

I don't think that the Bible has inspired a lot of wars. I think that people have inspired a lot of wars, and that there would be a lot of wars whether the Bible existed or not. Maybe some of those wars were fought by people who justified them through the Bible, but those people could equally well have found some other justification.

I think that the Bible has helped to transform morality over the past two millenia. In the Western world in 100 AD, it was widely believed that the most moral behavior was to be very good to your friends, and very bad to your enemies. Christianity was one of the first widespread doctrines that held that you should try to be good to everyone. This is certainly a much better doctrine, in my opinion. I am grateful that trying to be good to everyone has become so widely accepted as being moral.

To answer your question, I suspect that the Bible is called the "Good Book" because many Christians believe that it is a model for how to be good. And I'd go along with that to a certain point.

I think what caused those wars is more misinterpretation rather than inspiration. People change what the bible says to suit them and i don't think that is right. It is a lot easier to use the bible to manipulate people to fight wars than to give them any other reason. The bible can't be blamed..especially because of the commandment you shall not murder...

I have a dummy bible (not a bible for dummies) which has a section in the middle removed that I hide a flask of whiskey in and drink in public venues. I believe it really is "The Good Book". Nobody inspects bibles , not something I could do with the Satanic Bible.

I was unaware that books declared Wars or were on the battlefields fighting them??!! People have claimed Wars in honor of their faith.. but that hardly goes to saying that the Bible inspired it..

The Bible is the good book. It's just idiots bending the good messages to justify their own greed. It's a book whose meaning is abused.

It is a very unfortunate form of manipulation.
Just like when mommy wanted us to take our medicine... come on open up...its g-o-o-d....
No but really, it is a good book, so is Gone with the Wind and Dr. Seuss, I just wouldn't go basing a religion on any of them.

The Bible has done unimaginable good throughout its history; the evil has been done by errant humans who thought they had a better idea. Kinda sounds like you, huh?

The Bible did not inspire any wars. Satan did.

if you ever seen a miracle right in front of your eyes, you would not know what happened... the bible teaches a person to understand the miracles that are all around us, that we somehow dont see.... :)

People believe what ever their religion tells them to. That's why they're called followers.
