It depends on Departmental Policy. Our Dept has a rehab if you go to the head of the Dept and tell them openly you have a problem. You will get leave with pay for a time to recover. If you try to hide it and get caught you go to jail just like anyone else. My last partner is now out of law enforcement for that reason. Some Depts may have officers that let fellow officers go, we do not. I do not want it on my conscience if I let a brother officer go when they are under the influence, and they have a fatal accident. I would rather have them mad then dead or killing someone else.

It depends on a few other factors of the job. Has the preson been on the job long, do that have any issues in their past, are they asking for help or just bringing it up in casual conversation?
If the person is a good employee and is looking to get some help to over come a problem that he/she is facing then the supervisor should assist them with that. If it is an issue prior to the conversation and he/she is telling him this as a reason for acting a certain way then they will probably loose their job.
The supervisor needs to look at the whole picture and not just that one quick snap shot of the moment. Hmmmm...

If the admission was before a urinalysis then he might not have a chance. But if it was reported for help and well before a test, then I believe that he will have the backing of a Union if he is a member. Either way he still needs help. Integrity is the number one trait of any type of law enforcement officer or civil servant.

Admission to drug use is a circumstance that the user is entitled to rehabilitation since it was a confession which constitutes as an appeal for a better life.

Since drugs are illegal, they would most likely be fired or asked to resign. If it were alcohol, they would be given all the help they need.

You would be fired on the spot because there is no use of drugs while on the force at all.

Oh, ok, so it's alright for a "fellow police officer" to admit he's a drug addict (alcohol included, it's a drug taken by mouth, just like many other drugs) and it's totally accepted and fine and he gets to keep his job and get in no trouble, and gets sent off to "get help", and everyone feels happy about it and tells him it's ok... Yet you guys break into a house where a guy is smoking a joint or smoking some H or something by himself minding his own business watching TV in his own home.. And you throw him on the floor at gunpoint and call him a f*cking scum-bag junkie and fine him bigtime, throw him in jail (or prison), potentially messing his whole life up as well as getting him fired from his job, and then tell him his life is worthless and he's a waste of human life. F*cking hypocrits. For those of you here who ARE cops, I want you to think about that next time you "do the right thing" and catch "the big bad guy" who's doing drugs. Drug users are people too,and it's not your place to dictate other people's lives and get in the way of them altering their own perception if that's their choice. As long as the user isn't physically hurting anybody, you have no right to do anything like that. That's like telling a person who likes pie that pie isn't good for them, so if they make their own personal choice to eat pie - you're going to scream at them, put a gun to their head, drag them on the floor, then steal a bunch of their money and throw them in a 6ft cell and disreguard the fact that they're a human being. Sounds like Nazi **** to me. Alot of drug users are normal everyday people who use responsibly. It's like drinking. Most people see drinking as "ok" as long as you drink responsibly and don't overdo it, right? The same applies to drugs. With alcohol you have raging alcoholics, and you also have your average guy that drinks a couple beers while watching a game on TV. With drugs you have your responsible users who sit in their room and get a little high (just like beer-drinkers do when watching the game, getting a little high on alcohol), and just relax for 40 minutes. And you also have your addicts who abuse their drugs like alcoholics do with their drug (alcohol). It's no different. And even if? If someone wants to spend their life getting wrecked, that's their choice. The government and law enforcement has no right what-so-ever to directly dictate someone's life path like that. If they're driving a car while high that's one thing, yeah. That shouldn't be allowed. But if they're using in their own home or backyard or whatever and not bothering anybody, it should be left alone. It's sad that we've allowed them to take away our rights like this and dictate everything in our lives. Anyway sorry for the rant but I had to get that out =P. Make drugs legal and regulate it. You wouldn't have overdoses left and right because there'd be no change in purity. Not to mention the drugs would be clean and wouldn't have the extra impurities in it that harm people. Ontop of it all they could tax it which makes the leeching controlling government happy too. People are going to use if they want to because it's their natural choice, no matter what a piece of paper (lawbook) says. To imprison them and ruin their lives and make them feel worthless simply because they like "pie" is EXTREMELY cruel, don't you think?

Yes, you are correct. The law encourages employers even in law enforcement to seek help and recovery without punishment and also with privacy proctected laws.

they might be given a chance but I kinda doubt it. I know some who party and drink and drive a lot ,I bet if they got pulled over the once they flashed their badge to the other cop it would probably be looked the way.
