I disagree. There are times when a truth can be hurtful, and is not necessary. While I believe in telling the truth in matters of substance, I believe a "social" or "white" lie is sometimes the right thing to do. For example: if a friend asks "does my dress look ok?" and we're not in a place where she can do anything about it, I'm going to tell her "yes" no matter what I think of it. I do not believe in making a habit of lying, and certainly malicious lies are a bad idea at any time, but a lie to spare someone's feelings or to lighten a load can sometimes be appropriate.

No because such a black and white view of morality doesn't work in the real world and is just a cloak that tactless people use to cover their insensitivity towards their fellow humans. For example, a mother should never tell their kid that their painting is crap and it really doesn't look like the pet dog. When someone asks if they look good in something you shouldn't say "no you look like a beached whale" - you should suggest maybe they'd like to keep looking for alternatives.
For bigger issues like life/death type things. Think of people who hid Jewish people, escaped slaves, etc throughout history. They didn't say "heck yeah, the guy's in my basement which is stop 23 on the underground railway thanks for asking officer." When lying is to protect against a greater evil (and that includes saying hurtful things) then yeah lie your *** off.

disagree.
always is a definite word
i would agree if u asked "say the truth most of the times?"
there are times when abit of lie wont hurt anyone, it might even have positive effects
thats why the term "white lie" is coined.
always think of the consequences whenever u open your mouth
