It's thought like this that has really made me question religion. I have been pretty deep into it at some points too. There is no difference other than the fact that christianity is what we have been exposed to and led to believe is the truth. I wonder though if everyone was saying Zeus and his magic unicorn was God then is that what I would believe too? I think the best thing to do would be to explore all aspects of religions and find out what YOU think is real. Don't just follow the crowd. If there really is any God and afterlife then I believe it's thinking like this that will get you there. Not just going to church on Sundays and pretending to be a good person.

You are taking myth as the opposite of fact but in religion that is not true. The best definition of myth I have read is from Robert O'Connell that says that 'myths are stories told by people about people: where they come from, how they handle major disasters, how they cope with what they must and how everything will end.'
If you look at myth in that light, every story from Adam to Paul is a myth. Christians do believe that Jesus walked on water; Hindus do believe that Ravan had 10 heads etc. This does not mean that any of these statements are true or untrue. These are merely legends that are considered literal truths by some, allegories by others and plain untruth by the rest. Regardless of which group you fall under, all of these are considered myths.

Notwithstanding "Mr. I Believe", your question is anything but stupid and points out something that is obvious on one level and subtly elusive on another. There is now, and there has been in the past, a great war for the control of people's minds. Christianity won and has had 2,000 years to show its stuff, and it's the same ol' same ol. Read up on the similarities betwee Horus of ancient Egypt and Jesus. A total rip-off from the Egyptians. If, god forbid (and I use the term "god" merely as a figure of speech), Islam should achieve world dominiation, then guess who will be the one "true" myth-du-jour? And on it goes. The really sad part is we would lose nothing and gain much by a complete paradigm shift from any and all religion. There is even a great abudance of ideas in which direction we should evolve.

The apostle Paul writes, “And every day the Lord added to their group those who were being saved.” (Acts 2:47) When the Sanhedrin were contemplating what to do with the apostles Gamaliel gave sound advice: If what they have planned and done is of human origin, it will disappear, but if it comes from God, you cannot possibly defeat them. You could find yourselves fighting against God! (Acts 5:38-39) Roman Catholicism is the dominant religion of the world because Divine Providence has directed the world to know Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world.
