The entire controversy between Christ and Satan has always been worship.

Catholicism teaches that Christ dies every mass for remission of sins
The Bible teaches that he died once and for all

Catholicism teaches Salvation by works
The Bible teaches that salvation is only in Christ

Catholicism teach that we must be purged from our sins in purgatory before we goto heaven
The Bible teaches that Jesus death was enough to be purged from sin

Catholicism teaches we must confess our sins to priests
The Bible says confess your sins to God

Catholicism teach that we should call priests "father"
The Bible teaches not to call any man father

Catholicism teaches that the saints, particulary sister Mary are our intercessors and mediators
The Bible teaches that Jesus is both our intercessor and mediater

Catholicism teaches that worship can be done via statues
The Bible teaches that we should not even make a statue (compare 10 commandments from Exodus 20 to Catholic Catechism)

Catholicism teaches that Sunday is Holy
The Bible teaches that Sabbath is Holy

thats off the top of my head, this is not a Catholic slurr, i once thought myself to be Catholic, i even kissed a statue of Mary.

But remember, the hole controversy is about worship, if Satan can confuse pagan worship with that of Christianity, then his work is done. (btw this does not stop devout Catholics from entering the kingdom of heaven, because God winks at ignorance, but if these people have been shown the truths of God's Word and block it out, what more can he do.)

God bless!!

**NOTE: The answer from the ex-Catholic "kendal" above is riddled with errors and lies about the Catholic Church***

Any Catholic who claims not to be a Christian is ignorant.

There are Christians who are Catholic and those who are non-Catholic (called Protestants). There are also those who call themselves Christian but reject the Divinity of Jesus, i.e. the mormons and the jehovahs witnesses.

A person becomes a Christian when he is Baptized with water in the Name of the Father, Son & Holy Spirit. But that is only the beginning. A Christian has to do the Will of God.

The Catholic Church is the only Christian Church that teaches EVERYTHING that Jesus revealed to us, not just what was written down. The Catholic Church teaches the Fullness of Truth.

Perhaps they don't want to be grouped with the protestants at all.

Technically, Catholics are reformed Jews, since more of their practices relate to Judaism than most other christians. The Catholic view on history and Jesus' legacy reflects that. But I doubt your friend was reffering to this.

Catholics also believe in Mary and God, who both hold "authority" over Jesus in heaven, just not on Earth. I don't know about Mary on Earth now. But Jesus did have to turn water to wine per her request.

TO BE MORE FAIR,
A Christian Believes in the teaching of a Christ. (Might not be Jesus, and the scripture not the man, most christians do believe in the God/Man though)

Anyway, everybody defines their religion on individual levels.

She can call herself an Al Queda Buddhist if she wants. She might, however, be the only one.

That's the way I see it too.
I think it's a semantic issue.
Some people, like you and me, believe that the term Christian refers to any believer in Christ.
Others, however, believe that the term Christian only refers to members of certain denominations.
So my guess is that when people say Catholics aren't Christian, they mean they aren't from those denominations.

No, a Christian follows Christ, yes they also believe in/on/through Him. Catholics are not Christians because they do not follow Him, they follow their pope instead, so maybe a more accurate name for them should be popeians.

I don't say that and I am Catholic. It does not make sense. That would mean Christianity didn't exist for the first 1500 years! It is non-sense.

I don't know why anyone would say that. I am a Catholic and I certainly am a Christian. I guess it is lack of education in the faith.

Catholics pray to mary and hold her up as a bigger figure then Christians do. In Christianity you have respect for mary as the mother of christ, but you don't pray to her, you pray to jesus or god,

I've never heard a Catholic say that. If they do, then I'd chalk that one up to ignorance about their own faith. Which seems to be a common issue when dealing with religion.
