At 8 Weeks old you should be really house training him rather than paper training. It's really easy my pup is 10 Weeks old now and we got him at 8 weeks he's practically house trained.
I put him out as soon as he wakes up in the morning then again about 10 min after coz he's usually got reserves, I then feed him and put him out again, I put him out during play time and again before he drops off to sleep and again when he wakes up, fed etc and so on. It's a pain revolving your whole day around a puppy but he got the hint pretty quickly. If I catch him doing a pee or poo in the house I put a bit of newspaper under him to remind him that he does it on there when he's desperate, there is paper in our kitchen by the back door so he usually decides he may as well go into the garden for a pee rather than do it there.
Please do not listen to the people who tell you to smack him he will only become frightened of you rather than solving anything.
Good luck.

Try to catch him in the act, if you do.. pick him up and bring him to the paper and if there is some piddle on it then tell him what a good boy he is for using the paper. Just remember to praise him when he does it right.
At 8 weeks he will be familiar with the paper but doesn't understand what the big deal is about where he goes. Just remember to not get angry at all, just praise when he does the right thing. You can also leave a little bit of poo or piddle on the paper most of the time, show it to him and he will make the connection that the paper is where it should go.
He is also at a good age to begin crate training.
But be patient, as the weeks go by he will get better. 8 weeks is so young, but it's a good time to start the positive reinforcement.

There is a type of spray that smells similar to dog urine. You spray it onto the paper, training pads, or even where outside you want the dog to potty. Then take the dog to that area. This will normally encourage the dog to potty in that area. Also know that some dogs like to urinate in one area and deficate in another. So if your pup is peeing on the paper but going somewhere else in the house to poo or vice versa this could be an issue. If so try offering 2 seperate areas of paper.

At 8 weeks, it' really hard to say that your pup is paper trained. It took us at least 3 months (we got her at 8 weeks) to fully train her and she still has accidents. Get her on a routine, first thing in the morning, an hr after meals and after naps. Physically take her to the place where he's supposed to eliminate. It takes a lot of patience but it does pay off in the end. And accidents will still happen (ours sometimes happens when she gets too excited when we come home) but they'll eventually learn.

For a start, your puppy is not in full control of his bladder and bowels yet so accidents can be expected. Secondly, by allowing him to toilet on paper, you are actually training him to go in your hiome. How can he tell the difference between being allowed to go in one place in your home and not another place? Housetrain him properly by taking him outside every hour, as soon as he wakes, after ebvery meal. Stay with him outside for at least 5 minutes and encourage him to go by saying "do a weewee" or something. Then when he starts to go, calmly tell him he is good. After he is finished be very excited about it and praise him like mad. Don't do this while it is actually going though or he will stop going and want to play.

well i dont really agree with paper training as it does encourage the pup to toilet inside. The best bet when getting a new pup is to always take it out side as soon as you get it,every time he has ate, played, drank etc take him to the garden and wait for him to go,no matter what the weather or how long your waiting.Praise him to the sky's when he does go.If you do have accidents in side tell him no and say outside and lift him outside and put him on the grass.Preety soon your pup will learn that he has to go out side.To have less accidents take him out every hour and a half thats what i did with my lab x pup and he was house trained with in 3weeks.If your using a crate then you can still put paper down in that over night as obviously he wont be able to hold himself that long.Good luck

as far as piddle puddles go, I'm not 100% sure, but I can help you w/ the other. At that age, if you take a warm wet washcloth to the pups belly after feeding, and take the pup to the paper, he's going to want to go. He should associate the location to the urge as well. It helped with mine, and now he is able to hold it until I let him out to do his duty
Good luck

You can encourage him by correcting him whilst in the act & lots of praise after you see him do the right thing.....be patient with him, it does take a bit of time, but he'll get it dont worry.
I've been in your shoes too - you think they have it - then they go back to thier old ways! Oh how i remember those days lol ! Rest assured it wont last for long, he's still so young bless him and trying to learn.
I likened it to myself learning to drive in a weird kind of way!!! One day i have a perfect drive - do everything right, next lesson - i feel like i'll never get the hang of it! Sooo frustrating! Must be just as confusing for them learning where to go to the toilet!!!
With ours, ( a 8 wk old dobie) we used to try and gauge when he was about to go, then quickly pick him up or coax him to the paper area. Dont forget to get him associated with a word, so for example when we spotted ours about to go (and not on the paper area) we'd say 'wee wee's' (lol!) He will soon learn to associate that phrase / word then with going to the toilet.
This then led to him learning to go to the back door when he wanted to go, we originally put his toilet paper right near the back door and then once he'd got used to the paper, we'd do everything the same again, i.e try and gauge when hes about to go, pick him up and say 'you want to go wee wee's' :) , then open the back door, let him out to do his toilet, when hes finished, loads of praise to him.
Remember to only praise or tell off your pup at the time of the actual action. It would be of no use spotting the mess a while after its been done then trying to tell him he has done wrong.
If I caught mine in the act so to speak, i'd shout NO, then quickly pick him up and put him on the paper or outside, yes even if he was still dribbling wee down me (!), although i have to say the shock of me shouting no would made him stop in his tracks as far as i can remember then id have time to quickly get him to the right place.
Just remember loads of praise, even a small treat if he does good and you see him!
Our dog was just perfect and from this he went on to ask (well, bark!) when he wanted to be let out. He was as regular as clockwork, and would always go whilst on his walks as he grew up, but when he was in his twilight years he'd asked to go by a simple woof and he'd walk and stand near the back door - he was an absolute darling!
I hope you enjoy your wee pup as much as we did with ours, it can be hard work but its soooo worth it in the end! Its great watching them grow up - savour every minute, esp if he is a larger breed as the dont stay small for very long it seems :)
The other thing which may help is give him his meals at regular times of the day, and let him out last thing at night, first thing in the morning, but you prob do that anyway :)
Best of luck :)

All the above but when you want him to go or whilst he is say a word like busy (I tell my dog go wee and she goes out and tries to go)
Since we have had her at 6 months old (not house trained) that is what i did then lavish praise when she did it in the right place she is now 11 and still goes to order though there are times she pretends to go ...probably to shut me up!!
