Please get your dental checkup as soon as you can -- and that is because there are many conditions that are affected by poor dental health.
There are several reasons why parents did not take a child to the dentist - - and the first one that comes to mind is that they did not have dental insurance where they worked (or if they did -- they chose NOT to participate in the plan or pay the fees for the plan).
This is not something to disregard -- cleanings are very important, infections in the oral cavity can directly affect your heart and circulatory systems, and gum disease (especially untreated) can result in the unnecessary loss of teeth at a very young age (and nowadays, dental care is good enough so that individuals are now with their natural teeth for all their lives).

Basically, I have never been to a dentist in my 72 years. I don't count the time I went because I was hit in the mouth and had to have the tooth fixed. I had dental insurance later, so I went for a checkup. After X-raying my mouth, they couldn't find a single cavity and that was about 50 years after the broken tooth visit. They just cleaned my teeth and that's all that has been done. Heredity plays a big part in having good or bad teeth. I brush once a day with fluoride toothpaste and my teeth are still perfect. Don't be afraid. The advances that have been made in dentistry preclude practically all discomfort.

yup been there. Got all 4 impacted wisdoms out. In total 6 teeth pulled out over the years. Had stiches. Got braces. Got filling for cavity. lol, i hate to say that i have experience.
But, u should go to the dentist. 19 years, that too long. There might be food buildup in ur teeth, as a result u would need scaling. You should get this done regularily, so that it remains a simple procedure. The more u delay, the more harder it gets, the more complications that can arrise.

You need to see the dentist soon to be sure your teeth and gums are ok and to get your teeth cleaned. By not going to the dentist all this time your risk doing permanent oral damage that may not be easy to fix. Get yourself to the dentist and never mind how many others have never seen a dentist. Poor oral care is also linked to increased heart disease.

If you are like alot of people who wait to go to the dentist when their teeth hurt, then you will be paying alot of money and risk losing your teeth. You see, when a cavity gets to the point where it hurts the nerve and causes pain, you probably will need a root canal which costs $700-1100. It's best to fix cavities while they are small and damage is minimal. Also, not having a cleaning in 19 yrs. can lead to gum disease and losing them for good. Why keep all of that horrible bacteria under your gums? Go see a dentist if you care about your teeth.

You're 19; tell yourself to go to the dentist. There's nothing to be afraid of. It is necessary to go to the dentist.
