Edit: tonks_op you're thinking of Jeshua ben Panthera. It means Jesua, son of panthera (panther) and stems from a theory that jesus' father was a roman soldier by the name of pantheras. Interesting stuff, look it up some time. Some claim that the panthera in his name may be a misspelling of the Greek word parthenos meaning "virgin", but that theory doesn't hold water, considering it's always written always Panthera, never parthenos. Extremely unlikely the same mistake was made every time.

Chuck is right. "The word Jesus is the Latin form of the Greek Iesous, which in turn is the transliteration of the Hebrew Jeshua, or Joshua, or again Jehoshua, meaning "Jehovah is salvation."
Jesus has also been called "Jeshua ben parthana"(Sp?). meaning of the virgin. I think the J sounds like a Y. Maybe it is spelled with a Y

There are many men called Jesus in the Holy Bible that is why our savior is referred to as Jesus of Nazareth. Regardless of what we call Jesus of Nazareth, his name is a different word in a different language or even in a different dialect within a language. The same is true of your name and of mine. It would be difficult to tell you an accurate translation without knowing in which language, dialect or text you mean. In Jewish it is Yeshua.

Ok, so the name his mother called him by was the Hebrew Yeshua, which is similar to the Hebrew form of Joshua, Yehoshua. Both mean "salvation". I don't think he ever heard the name "Jesus".

But I think Jesus (pbuh) spoke aramaic and a bit of hebrew. So I do not know what his name is in Aramaic. But in hebrew it was Yeshua in arabic it is Eesa or Isa. I am not sure if it really matters though, does it???? He was a great Prophet and is the messiah!!

Jesus name in Aramaic was Yeshuah. Translated to english is Jesus. It still means the same thing.
