Most airlines want your dog to be under 20 pounds. What if my pug weighs 24. I don't want to ship him as cargo. I have to have him next to me in the cabin. What airline will let him ride with me even though he is not a chiuaua?

Airlines are concerned about whether he'll fit under the seat in an approved carrier versus his actual weight. Check the airline you want to fly and see what brand/make carrier they approve or size, than go the pet store and try your Pug in it. If he can properly lie down, stand, and turnaround in it..you're good to go.

Otherwise, remember we love our fur-kids but the pet rules are there to ensure their safety and comfort not just ours.

I just want to put this in perspective for you. I fly with my chihuahua in the cabin very frequently. He weighs about 5 lbs. The carrier I have for him is a Petflys carrier, and although he fits in it well, there's still not a lot of room, and it barely fits under the seat. I really can't see how a 24lb dog could be comfortable in a carrier that has to be small enough to slide under a seat. On the other hand, I would never put my dog in cargo. Any way you can drive?

Most airlines recommend the Sherpa carrying bag. they do make different size. Yes most airlines will let you put the bag under set but not beside you. I am sure you can find a small enough one for your pug.

Put Puggly on a diet and lie about his weight. That is what I would do. You can always say it has been a few months since the Vet weighed him if they catch you. I would not put my baby in the cargo bay.

I didn't even know you could have your dogs in the plane with you! Why does it matter if he is cargo? give him a sedative or "relaxing pills" you can get at any local pet store! He'll be fine and it will save you the stress!

My mother has worked for the several airlines over the last 30 years and she is always telling me stories of the poor dogs that people think that they HAVE TO HAVE shipped. I want you to really think about it. DO YOU REALLY WANT TO PUT YOUR DOG THROUGH THE TRAMA OF BEING SHIPPED? Please reconsider this, for your dogs sake.
