He's 18 and he's been skipping school. He was even caught stealing money from my mom's purse so that he could spend it with computer games. He also has this tendency of talking back at my mom and has a very bad temper. He isn't like this before. Ever since he's playing games on the computer, his social life has slowly deteriorated.

The family already took out the computer from our home so that he would start going to school and have a normal social life but instead of heading to school, he heads out to internet cafes...

How can I help him and his future?

DON"T CALL THE POLICE ON HIM. Right now is suffering from an addiction just like any other kind (drugs, alcohol, pornography, etc). He needs to know that you love him and care that he is playing to the point that he's hurting himself. The first step is getting him to realize he has a problem. I suggest having a intervention or psychiatric help.

If you don't want to go to that much of an extreme just try getting him out of the house. Ask him to do something fun with you on a weekend. Do somthing he'll enjoy paint balling, bowling ,a movie etc. Or try challenging him with small steps. Like I bet 10$ you can't go all weekend without playing video games. He might be able to get to the point where it's just a healthy past time and not an overwhelming force in his life.

buy him a real expensive top of the line computer with a host of new hot release videogames and a comfortable cushy computer chair and the biggest most lag free internet connection he can get, with a coffee maid beside him that constantly brews and pours him coffee. have the computer chair be transformed into a toilet with a flusher, and pay him to have a personal cook. pay for him to have a personal massager and someone to rub his feet with essential oils, this way he can stay at the computer for 24/7 until he has a psychotic break then he will see for himself he spends too much time at the computer and only do it in moderation from there out.

at first i couldn't believe my eyes when i read the question. and frankly after reading the answers you Fools left im ashamed to say im Human. VIDEO GAME ADDICTION?!?!?!?!?!? has the entire world gone batshit? People have taken this "addiction" word WAY too far. i think the addiction you are referring to has less to do with video games and more to do with some kind of REAL drug than you let on. and face it would you rather he be killing demons in a video game or out with his posse robbin some old lady of her purse to go buy Crack? get frillin REAL people. i agree robbin mom is a pretty frilled up thing but like i say he was prolly just lookin for some money for beer or something. if you wanna help him, slap him with a Hammer forged of Bronze. it'll set him straight or send him to Hell for "worshiping False Idols" such as those damned Blasphemous Video Games.

everyone needs to stick together and make him change his ways. If he does not want to go to school then he needs to get a job to support himself. And if your Mom has already caught him stealing from her then maybe she should call the police next time. Do not support him or feel sorry for him because it will never stop and only get worse.

I am a videogame addict. But I realised in High School my addiction was costing me my grades, so I cut back.

As with anything too much can be bad.
