They are basicly the same amount of risk.

What can go wrong on a plane.

Engine Failure, Fire, Terorest Attack and so on. On a boat you have all of these factors but the difference is that you on the water and you will starve to death. With a plane, you can do an emergency landing. On a boat you have to be found.

If your gunna die on one of them look at it this way.

In a plane, you fall from the sky and dieing in 30 secs. On a boat you might get in to trouble, food runs out and your starving to death.

I would rather fall from the sky and get it over and done with!

And a plane is faster!

Definitely, it's still safer to ride a plane than to ride a ship. As experts say, the airplane is the safest mode of transportation. More ships shring vs. planes crashings.

Thats a cool question. Personally I think that the ship would be safer. Planes over oceans, faster, but more chance of something going wrong.

Statistically speaking, an airplane is the safest way to travel. But I'd rather fall into the ocean from a couple hundred feet instead of a couple thousand.
