According to this article, they are both banned>>>>>
Despite Miami-Dade's ban, Daye says he receives calls every day from people
who say they have spotted a pit bull. There are many pit bull mixes and
officials must determine if the dog meets the breed's characteristics. If the dog is
labeled a pit bull, the owner is cited with a $500 fine and given 48 hours to
take the dog out of the county.<<<<

American Staffordshire Terriers, American Pit Bull Terriers and Staffordshire Bull Terriers are often lumped into the same category of being called a 'pit bull'. In Miami-Dade, this means any of these breeds or mixes there of or dogs that resemble these dogs, sadly.

American Staffordshire Terriers are the pure bred name of Pit Bulls.
They definately look about the same, they have similar behaviors but only if it is purebred can you say that your pit is one.
Most of the time, dogs of certain breeds are allowed anywhere, but just not allowed to be owned by certain home owners.
Some apartment complexes have breed and weight restrictions.
Most house owners cannot own them because of home owners insurance. (This includes other breeds like rottweilers, dobermans, german shepards and chows)
There is a very big stereo type over these breeds but it is very likely most of the agreement is that if these breeds behave aggressively they can do alot of damage to people and other animals.
Truth is: Every breed of dog can be dangerous.
Truth is: No "just one breed" is aggressive nor can they be labeled that way.
As to whether they are allowed in that area, I am not sure. You might have to contact the city hall or clerks office.

It sadly does look like they are, I just can't people that stereotype Amstaff/pitbulls, I work at a pet resort (kennel) in florida and we have quite a few pit bulls, that come in and they are just as sweert as they can be. I believe it is all in how the owner raises the y dogs and socialize them. Good Luck with your trip

Here is a website that I found look down at Florida it list BANS ON CERTAIN DOG BREEDS
Hope this helps

yes they are because of two reasons, 1)the lack of training for the dog and the owners, 2)the aggressive tendencies that develop because of the lack of training. Don't worry too much though, there are a lot of dogs that people are trying to the list such as the Rottweiler, Doberman, German Shepherd, Malinois, and even American Bulldogs.

They are unfortunatley one in the same. Pit bulls are hybrid versions and only have this name due to the fighting fact of being thrown into a hole (PIT) in the ground.Peolple want differntiate them, but dna connects them. They are indeed great animals!

i see you have posted from the uk ... i think the issue would be getting your dog back into the uk ... my friend was turned away and sent back to canada with her pitbull and she brought the pitbull from england to canada originally !!! and be careful coming here because bans are happening faster than people could possibly post ... and generally it is not states that ban, it is municipalities that do so unless you have a lot of time on your hands to research every local law, leave your dog at home
