My son is six years old and still has all of his baby teeth. Now his permanent teeth on the bottom front are starting to come out behind them. Is that normal? His baby teeth are not loose at all. Does he have to get his baby teeth extracted or will they fall out on theiri own? Thanks for your help.

Your child is doing fine.

The permanent lower incisors ALWAYS come from the tongue-side of the baby lower incisors at the age of six.

Most of the time the permanent incisors will push and uproot the baby incisors enough that the baby incisors will fall out first.

Occasionally, the permanent incisors can't push hard enough, and the baby teeth stay, making a "double" rows of teeth.

Your dentist will need to extract the baby incisors so that the permanent ones can get to the right place.

P.S.

I extracted my two daughters' baby teeth when they were at six years old. My son's baby teeth fell out on their own. All of their teeth are all straighten out by themselves about a year later.

If the adult teeth are actually behind the baby teeth, there might not be enough pressure to push them out. The dentist may have to take them out (they can sedate him) but the biggest concern would be that the adult teeth are growing in the wrong place. Better make an appointment to get him checked. It would be easier to prevent any major problems instead of fixing it later.

His baby teeth will fall out on their own but since you are worried you should go to the dentist.

Normally they will push the baby teeth right out. The baby teeth should fall out soon.
