My brother seems to think that having sex in relationships is what they should be about. He doesn't understand that there's more to it than just doing the beast on two backs... anyone's opinion is greatly appreciated....

men and women were made to support each other mentally, spiritually, and physically. they're all combined into one beautiful relationship. take one of those elements out of there, and you just don't get the whole thing. it's like you're cheated. sex is not everything. it's not the most important thing, and those relationships wont last, and the people involved will never, ever, be happy.

A lot of relationships ARE based on just sex. Both partners may know this already in a relationship... or one may know and the other may think that's not what the relationship is all about. It's safe to just save the sex till you're married. That's what I'm doing. My boyfriend of almost 10 months really respects that too.

Well, good question. A relationship solely based on sex will not work (unless both partners are ok with that), but neither will one without sexual attraction, since human instincts pull either towards sex or towards aggression. This is, by the way, not my personal opinion; it is Freud's, and he was probably friggin' right. Romantic relationships (which I think was what you meant) differ from other kinds of relationships in exactly that: sex, or at least, caresses and sexual attraction and contact at some level. So, yeah, sex is a big part of relationships...

RELATIONSHIPS are not based on sex, granted most couples do have sex in a relationship there is also something more. It sounds like maybe your brother is confusing relationship with friends with benefits. Sex in a relationship is something that is supposed to be charished. It is in-fact making love. And if you THINK that you're in a relationship, but there's no special connection no love to it, then all it is is sex.

There is more to a relationship than sex. Definitely. Any relationship solely based on sex will not last. And I'm not even sure you can call it a real relationship.

Some are for sure. If its between two consenting adults and its a casual thing yes but if he is leading these girls on like he is their boyfriend he will get burnt pretty quick when he actually wants more from a chick.

sex is meant to be between people who love each other. if you just have sex without love, it looses its special meaning in relationships with love. so, it is up to the people having sex as to what they want.
