What's not to respect?
In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.
The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of Gods plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.
Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.
Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.
Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It’s meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.

Sure, I can. I respect Satan because he drew humanity toward knowledge, while Jehovah tried to keep men dumb and ignorant. I respect Satan because he saw potential in man and encouraged it. I respect Satan because he actually says,"The world around you is good and real. Enjoy it. Explore it. Exercise the mind that you have. Develop your consciousness. Become more than you already are." He doesn't fear that man should become like unto him. He knows that sentient man is a god in utero and longs for people to join him on the journey. Many people assume that the Bible gives the be all, end all description of Satan. I think perhaps he's just been hit hard by Jehovah's spin team. Even still, re-read Genesis and ask yourself,"Do I respect the one who fears the growth of man or the one who says,'Eat the fruit and know..'?"

Respect for Satan is just this: Don't underestimate the Foe. This is because he is very, very powerful and wants to 1) drag as many souls into Hell as possible, 2) make life as miserable and wretched as possible, and 4) make a Hell on Earth.
Again, don't underestimate him. That could be the last mistake you'll make.

I would say he gets respect like a bear or a hurricane. He can do damage, but he doesn't deserve any sort of admiration type of respect.

Satan and God are each one side of the same coin. Consider that there is no good without evil, no positive without negative, no light without darkness, no ying without yang, no male without female, no pain without pleasure. And there is no God without Satan. You couldn't have Luke Skywalker if there wasn't a Darth Vader and vice versa. Likewise you couldn't have God without Satan. They depend on each other. They give substance to each other. Neither could exist without the other. Satan and God are aspects of each other.

Respect similar to what you would give say a wild animal. We should be aware that he is a defeated foe, but by God's hand, not our own.
