13 years old, male. I currently lift 8lbs 6 days a week with a rest day. If I want to sculpt, grow, or maintain my arm muscle, how heavy should I lift? I have been doing 8 lbs for a few months now.

Keep in mind your body is still growing and your actual peak muscle mass is at the age of 21-25. So give it some time. Training at a young age can be tuff, one thing that is an absolute must is technique. Without proper form you run the risk injury, therefore putting you out of the gym for a period of time.

A rule of thumb is the 2 by 2. Per say you start lifting 8lbs at a 10 rep volume and you can perform 2 more reps for 2 consecutive training days, increase the intensity (in your case the weight). Try going to a 10 pound until you can perform 12 reps easily again.

push the 8 lbs to ten. until it's to easy then make it heaveier as u go along dont listen to people oh i lift more.......but curls are not good enough . go to a gym or ask ur gym teacher to help.

do 2 sets of 12-20 . then try to keep at 20 dont hurt yourself , even 5 pound lifted wrong can hurt u bad.

Try going two pounds up every month or two- unless you find it uncomfortable, then every three to four months.
