Regardless of how old you are, that's neither normal or strange. It's normal for you, and he needs to respect that. You're not big on PDAs, that's okay.
Explain to him that it's not him. You prefer being more subtle in public. You like him very much, and you like kissing him, but you'd be more comfortable refraining from that in public.
Maybe you'll warm up to the idea, but for now, that's how you feel.
Remember, he can't even begin to understand how you feel unless you tell him. Good luck!

I personally think that is very sweet. I believe that kissing is a fairly intimate act (actually, when I counseled women who had been prostitutes, they said that they would allow just about anything from a john but didn't allow kissing) and that if it means anything serious that it is likely that you won't want to be doing it publically for others to mock, etc. When I was a kid you didn't see a lot of public kissing going on, except maybe at drunken parties and weddings (well, same diff where I came from lol). I like a modest and sweet young couple who practice deportment in public. I find it a little embarrassing to walk by lovers who are entwined and doing things that I feel are really more appropriate to the bedroom, and I really have to wonder why the big performance... like they are calling out, "See how desirable I am? See how lovable I am?"
Anyhow, I'm fairly ancient and I'm not sure that my opinion matters a great deal, but I just wanted to get my vote in for your right to be modest, private, and self-contained.

You are just weird about showing affection in public. Maybe it was the way you were raised, maybe you are shy in this area, maybe it's just a thing you have. Just make sure he knows about it and that it is no reflection on him, so that he doesn't get offended that you don't want to kiss him.

Your reaction is not abnormal or strange. There are plenty of people out there who are not comfortable with public displays of affection. Just make sure you feel comfortable kissing your boyfriend when there aren't people around.

Some people don't like to show affection unless it's in private. It's not weird. As you do it, however, you'll care about other people less and less.

Not weird, but there is nothing wrong with it. It's your choice, but consider his feelings as well.
