i suppose what i am trying to ask is if it's possible to "be in love" with someone who does not necessarily "love" you back. can that be considered love, or is it just an infatuation since there is no reciprocation on the other end?
haha i'm having somewhat of a tough time trying to word this properly. i mean, must 2 people share equal/mutual feelings for one another for it be considered love, or can it just be one-sided and still considered love?

thanks in advance.

In The Princess Bride the Farm Boy loved the girl all the while she tormented him.. but after a while she realized she loved him back. Of course how could u not fall for a gourgious man that always says ''As you wish"?

I totally understand what you are asking....over a year and a half ago I was in a relationship....I really liked him, I felt deeply for him, so it was my feeling that I loved him....however, he didn't feel the same way. For 7 mos, I tried to get him to open his heart to me, he wouldn't budge. When he dumped me to marry someone else, I was hurt (at first), then realized, I had wasted my feelings on someone who wasn't worth it. So it is possible to "love" someone and not have them "love" you back.

It can be one sided they call that unrequited love. Sucks when it happens but it does. If you're in that situation and you're the one that's not getting their feelings returned to them you should try to move on and find someone that feels the same way you do. It'll be worth it.

I don't think that would be love at all, or an infatuation. I don't know how one person can only love the other one, but the other doesn't love you back. It sounds like a fraudulent relationship.

Yes you can love someone even if they dont return that love back to you. This is not infatuation as you put it but real feelings. so let him or her understand that you love them by showing it through action.

Of course you can. They may not be in love with you but you can certainly be in love with them, however it might not work out for marriage if only one is in love...My mother (rest her soul) she told me that she was in love when she was very young and that her parents would not let her marry the one she loved and she was married to my Dad 25 years and after my Dad died she married again..She told me she had never been in love except that time when she was young,I was shocked to say the least..So i went on and kelp asking her why she married if she wasn,t in love? she said she liked them but did not love my Dad or my step Dad but she cared about them but wasn,t in love...since then I have known a couple of people that was in love with someone and that love was not returned....
