Warning: If you do only use one voice coil, your sub will now only be able to handle half of the power!!!

You can't present a 2 ohm load to a single amplifier, if you have a dual 2 ohm voice coil sub, if you use both voice coils. It can only be wired as a 1 ohm load (which your amp won't be able to handle), or as a 4 ohm load. You should have bought a dual 4 ohm sub, so you could parallel the voice coils, and present the amp with a 2 ohm load.

Try unhooking one of the voice coils. It should actually sound a bit better (more output, anyway), even though you'd only be using one voice coil.

Check your user manual on the amp that you are using to find out what load it recommends. When you hook up your subs to the output of the amp, you hook up two subs in parallel to half the total ohms of the speakers you use or hook up the subs in series to double the ohms of the speakers. Parallel means to hook up the "+" of both speakers to the "+" of the amp and hook up the "-" of both speakers to the "-" of the amp. Series means to hook up the "+" of one speaker to the "+" of the amp and the "-" of that same speaker to the "+" of the second speaker and the "-" of the second speaker back to the "-" of the amp (on whatever channel your hooking to).
