Norman Mailer once wrote an excellent article, titled
"The Most Dangerous Book In The World". Of course he was referring to the Bible, which probably could also be called the most boring book in the world, or the worst book in the world. It has been a constant surprise to me for years that people can be so foolish as to think so little of what they call God as to call that mishmash the "word of God". The few passages that contain wisdom or poetic beauty are so small in comparison to the contradictions and violence and just plain nonsense that it is hardly worth looking for them. So, to answer your question, try thinking for yourself. Oh yes, judge not lest you be judged. Love thy neighbor.... Treat others as you would have them treat you. I could go on, since another constant surprise is how regularly so called Christians violate the most simple and basic principles attributed to Christ, especially when they cite their religious prejudices to condemn people who are different from them. We have another lovely example of the value of religion in Iraq and the whole middle east, with all the devout noodlebrains killing each other over some old stupid religious argument. According to the Bible, God’s forgiveness is just as available to a homosexual as it is to an adulterer, idol worshipper, murderer, thief, etc. God also promises the strength for victory over sin, including homosexuality, to all those who will believe in Jesus Christ for their salvation (1 Corinthians 6:11; 2 Corinthians 5:17).
