If you are disabled, you can qualify for Social Security Disability...
It is like your insurance... you have earned it.. it comes out of your paycheck each month. It comes from the money that was deducted automatically... get to your nearest SS office and apply immediately! Also get proof from Dr.s and whatever they can do to help you... It takes time and sometimes you have to re-apply or fight the system a couple of times... but it is also paid back from the time you applied first, so it really does help you... Best wishes and good luck to you! If you are also over a certain age, like in your late 40's or early 50's and are on the disability for at least two years, then you will also qualify for Medicare... and Medicaid! Go for it! You can also apply online! Yeah! ;0)

Take heart, becoming physically disabled is indeed a big challenge but it's not the end of the world.

Besides the official govt help, there are also many local and internet groups who can those in similar situations.

If you are losing all you have due to accummulation of debt, call up your loan officers and see if you can renegotiate payment terms. Bankers and loan officers are willing to take a smaller repayment or longer terms because the alternative may be for them to get nothing if you go broke.

If you have any assets, such as a house, you will need to sell it to reduce your debt and to make future plans.

Sounds like you don't have any disability insurance. This may be a chance to become a speaker on the importance of disability insurance. Talk to some insurance agencies, and ask to talk to marketing depts.

Please come back to this posting group and give a follow-up a few months from now and let us know what you've done, what worked, what didn't, etc.

Best Wishes!

You will lose everything the moment you give up on trying.
Becoming disabled is not the end of the world.
You can find ways to still work if you keep the will and positiveness and have a family to support or be with.
Even if you do not want to go "out" working. look into working from home schemes and internet related jobs using your computer.

There are lots of opportunities out there. Make use of of your years of experience in whatever field you have been working in and start your own business with help from family and friends.

Good luck.

My father was recently disabled and had to leave his job because he became ill with cancer. Yes, he does get depressed and I imagine that he would love to be able to get out and do something, but b/c of his illness, he cannot. The only thing that I can say to you, from whatching my father, is that you can never truly lose everything, the body may deteriorate but the soul never dies. Believe in God and ask him for guidance

cut back on your life style. If you own a large home..sell it...Get a nice place that is smaller and easier to maintain. Be content with less. It's just a matter of mindset.
After my divorce from my husband where we had a large farm and home and many possessions. I lived with my younger sister and her 3 children in a single wide trailer. I got the smallest room. Nothing was mine and i had no money. But the peace of mind to be away from an abusive life was ok with me. I got content. I am married again and own things again. But I keep my eye simple. I am content with the basics of life.
You too will learn to cope or spend forever with grief.

Tons of people never have chance to work, Tons of people never have lived pass 40, Tons of people were disabled before their teens, Tons of people never seen daylight in life, Tons of people never heard birds sing in life...
